IP Program Roles Commentary Task Coach

ROLE SCOPE
The Commentary Task Coach (CTC) supports the GeoMarket Injury Prevention Champion in the implementation and
continuous monitoring of key aspects of SLB QHSE Standard 017 Injury Prevention Standard, typically within a specific
facility.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

To assist in developing general employee awareness and ensure Injury Prevention is an integral part of all employees’ worksite
behaviors, this position has the responsibility of conducting annual Commentary Task Assessments and worksite coaching for
individual employees, typically involving actual wellsite/worksite observation / intervention, and QUEST entry of the
completed annual assessments.

Additional responsibilities to be performed in support of SIPP as needed include:

 To conduct Formal Safe / At-Risk Behaviors Observations involving SIPP techniques in all work environments of a target
facility, for the purpose of measuring KPIs and loading them into QUEST.
 To assist with annual SIPP Standard Assessments for the location of his/her assignment.
 To assess for SHL risks and define the appropriate set of body protection techniques to be used on specific activities and
tasks in the local operation.
 To assist Line Management, QHSE staff, and LPTs in the post-incident investigation and review of SHL events and RIRs,
and assure remedial Action Items address the appropriate body protection techniques.
 To assist Line Management, QHSE staff, and LPTs in the design of remedial Action Items following a SIPP Standard
Assessment.
 To assist Line Management in the review of IP Program Objectives and KPIs, especially when there is no SIPP Level 3-
status Instructor assigned to the location.
 To act as an assistant for SIPP Level 3-4 Instructors during presentations of SIPP Level 2 instruction. Assistance by CTCs
is critically important if the student-to-Instructor ratio exceeds 12:1. The need for a CTC assistant is most critical during
the body protection techniques demonstrations, during the classroom behavioral intervention practice sessions, and during
the worksite practice session.
 To act as a local resource person for the application of WorkSMARRT techniques of Observation / Intervention to other
(non-SIPP) activities (service delivery, driving, general safety procedures, etc.).
 To be a role model in the application of all SIPP body protection techniques as well as in all other QHSE behaviors.

KEY BEHAVIOURAL and QUALIFICATION FACTORS

 The candidate for CTC must be generally perceived as a Leader, prior to assignment, or the credibility of the CTC role
will suffer. The candidate’s Teamwork skills must be well developed and pre-existing or the ability to address people at
various levels of the hierarchy will be reduced. The candidate’s interpersonal Communication skills are critical to an
ability to be a role model for Observation / Intervention. Whereas it is possible to develop a candidate in Leadership,
Teamwork and Communication skills, it is a very expensive and time-consuming process and should only be applied based
on the candidate’s potential.
 Additionally the successful candidate will have enough Field Experience to assure process insight in post-incident
situations, and enough Planning skills to manage the various role duties especially regarding formal Assessments and
Observations.
 The candidate must always be perceived by the general employee population as having Personal Integrity and
Reliability.
 Those who once were Instructors of SIPP Level 2 and who have been dropped from the Instructor roles due to inactivity or
aversion to the classroom presenter role may be suited to CTC status if they have the above qualifications. Such
candidates can immediately begin the Coach role.
