SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH GRADE 11

I. OBJECTIVES:
After 60-minute period, 85% of the students will be able to;
a. Define the meaning of non-verbal communication
b. Express the connection between body language and its importance in
communication
c. Perform the different gestures and body languages
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
1. TOPIC: non-verbal communication
SUB TOPIC: gesture and body language
2. CONCEPT: Non-verbal communication, or a body language is a vital form of
communication.

Good communication is a foundation of a successful relationships, both
personally and professionally. But we communicate with much more than words.
C. Lesson Proper
 Non-verbal Communication
 Communication without the use of spoken language. In includes
gesture, facial expression, and body position (known as body
language)
 A Gesture is a form of non-verbal communication made a part of the
body.
Gesture classified in various ways:
1. Descriptive gestures- are just what the name implies. They are
gestures which aid words in describing anything.
2. Locative gestures- are used to locate things. It points to place,
position, or direction.
3. Dramatic or imitative gestures- convey impersonation of another
person’s actions or ‘’acting out’’ part of narrative.
 Body Language- the process of communicating nonverbally through
conscious or unconscious gestures and movements. Communication
involves more than just words. Bodily motion, eye contact, and even non-
verbal sounds are also used when we speak.
1. The facial expressions- should reflect the speaker’s thinking and
emotional attitudes. Face reflects what is in the heart of the person
and it is in the face that the audience could read what emotions the
speakers convey.
2. Posture- maybe describe on how the speaker stands and moves
around.
3. Movement- refers to the total body movement as the speaker shift
from one position to another.
4. Hand gesture- are the complement for the demonstration of the
speaker’s idea.
D. Application
INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY (I can’t believe this)
Time frame: 10 minutes
 The teacher will select five (5) willing participants in the class to enact the
non-verbal cues while saying the line “I can’t believe this”.
 The teacher will the select the juries to rate the performance of the
participants performance based on their effective usage the non-verbal cues.
