1. Presentation

“THINK BEFORE YOU JUDGE”

A doctor entered the hospital in hurry after being called in for an urgent
surgery. He answered the call asap, changed his clothes and went
directly to the surgery block.  He found the boy’s father pacing in the
hall waiting for the doctor.
On seeing him, the father yelled, “Why did you take all this time to
come? Don’t you know that my son’s life is in danger? Don’t you have
any sense of responsibility?”
The doctor smiled and said, “I am sorry, I wasn’t in the hospital and I
came as fast as I could after receiving the call and now, I wish you’d
calm down so that I can do my work”.
“Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now, would you
calm down? If your own son dies while waiting for the doctor than
what will you do??” said the father angrily.  The doctor smiled again
and replied, “We will do our best by God’s grace and you should also
pray for your son’s healthy life”.
“Giving advises when we’re not concerned is so easy” Murmured the
father.
The surgery took some hours after which the doctor went out happy,
“Thank goodness! your son is saved!” And without waiting for the
father’s reply he carried on his way running by saying, “If you have
any questions, ask the nurse”.
“Why is he so arrogant? He couldn’t wait some minutes so that I ask
about my son’s state” Commented the father when seeing the nurse
minutes after the doctor left.  The nurse answered, tears coming down
her face, “His son died yesterday in a road accident, he was at the
burial when we called him for your son’s surgery.  And now that he
saved your son’s life, he left running to finish his son’s burial.”
Moral: Never judge anyone because you never know how their life is
and what they’re going through.

2. Discussion

The teacher will guide the students on how to employ appropriate style
of speaking, adjusting language, gestures, rate, and volume according
to
audience and purpose.
VERBAL COMMUNICATION – refers to the vocal performance of
a speaker, its rate volume, pitch and pauses. These aspects of
vocalization are critical to effectively conveying ideas.
(after all, if your audience has trouble understanding what words are
coming out of your mouth, then they will be unable to understand your
message.)
Rate – refers to the speed at which a person speaks.
- commentator
- priest
- president
Volume – refers to the loudness or softness of the speaker’s voice.
- Know what volume your voice should be in your classroom
- Vary the volume to get attention
Pitch – means the highness or lowness of the speaker’s voice. Changes
in the pitch are known as inflections.
Pauses – add color, expression, and feeling to a speech. They should be
used deliberately to achieve a desired effect. (to give your listeners time
to absorb what are you saying.)

5. Application

Group Activity

Ask them to act a scene in a church, rally, party, declamation,

campaign, etc.
What benefit can we get from knowing how to speak well?

6. Generalization

What are the standards of speaking well?

Volume – to be heard; we have to know when to adjust our voice for us
to be heard
Clarity – to be understood; we must know what words are appropriate
and easy to comprehend
Variety – to add interest; we should know what flavor/emotions we will
give to our audience/listener for us to be interesting and worth to listen
to.

The group activity given will be graded using a teacher-made rubric.

V. EVALUATION
