of the most influential way model of
communication methods communication

Lasswell model- also known best, as being the original linear

model because in this model, communication only flows in a
single direction, or a one-way process. The model was
developed in 1948, by American political scientist and
communication theorist, Harold Lasswell, to be able to analyze
mass communication and the effect of media propaganda in
other countries. It was used by interpersonal or group
communication to pass on to other, or to various groups in
various situations.

Laswell Communication Model is a communication from 1 person to many people

(Mass Communication)

Laswell create this model because of what he observe from his time (1948)
Only rich people have a privilege to experienced mass media (i.e., television and
radio)
Even newspaper cannot be read by anyone because the subscription were too
expensive
So Laswell create this model; a effective mass communication which are about the
relationship between the presentation of the message and generating different
effects from this concept which is called feedback (the effect of the message)

LASSWELL’S MODEL OF COMMUNICATION
& components
According to Lasswell, a convenient way to
describe an act of communication is to
answer the following questions

WHO >says> WHAT

>in> WHAT CHANNEL
>to> WHOM >with> WHAT EFFECT
Communication model deals with 5
questions in every part of it for analyzation
and identification of component purposes

The questions are:

Who is communicating?
What needs to be communicated?
Which channel is going to be used?
Who is the message intended for?
What effect does it need to have?

WHO WHAT
The communicator / sender / The message or content
source of the message

Content Analysis -
Control Analysis - understanding what is being
recognizing who has the said by the sender
power or control

WITH WHAT EFFECT

CHANNEL
The effect or the result
The medium

Effect Analysis - how the whole

Medium Analysis - analysing
communication process,
different types of mediums and
mainly the message, impacted
determining winch is best
the audience

TO WHOM
The receiver / audience

Audience Analysis - observing

the audience to determine
which message works best to
which type of people
Example situation:
Weather Report

Says What? The reporter
informs the audience about an
incoming typhoon
In what channel? On television
To whom? Public
Effect? The viewers will prepare
for the
typhoon
