TOTAL PHYSICAL RESPONSE

1)Asher believes that foreign language instruction can and should be modeled on
native language acquisition. What are some characteristics of his method that are
similar to the way children acquire their native language?

It is believed that children learn by movements. To define the general characteristics of the
TPR, three aspects must be taken into account: linguistic theory, pedagogical theory and
sociolinguistic theory. That only after assimilation and verification can be put into
operation.

2)One of the principles of TPR is that when student anxiety is low, language learning
is enhanced. How does this method lower student anxiety?

When we see an aerobics class it is not the same as when we participate in it. The
adrenaline begins to flow throughout our body and we begin to activate our mind searching
for the best response. Likewise, it is this method when we make the class an exercise where
all the classmates are participants, the learning is done in a simple and participative way.

B Apply what you have understood about Total Physical Response.

I arrive to my class with teacher. I greet my students and I begin to tell them to do certain
exercises using their body, first the exercises they do with me then they will do it alone and
then the exercise would vary and apply them to other students, they would really be
commands to thus in that way playing learn to obey orders. Which will look fun, dynamic
and trigger in the activity all the adrenaline they have.

1) Although the teacher uses imperatives, she does so in a gentle, pleasant way, the
way a parent would (¡usually! do with a child. Her voice, facial expression, and
manner are kind. Practice giving the commands in this chapter in this way.

Go and look for that chair

Go and call your brother

Buy me rice and pasta

Search the dog

Come to eat

Release the cat

2) A lot of target language structures and vocabulary can be taught through the
imperative. Plan part of a TPR lesson in which the present continuous tense, or
another structure in the target language, is introduced.

Mary, when you are putting those weights on the table, wash your hands

Mary gets a rope for the dog.

3)In the action sequence (operation) that we looked at, the teacher had the students
pretend to write and mail a letter. Think of three other common activities which could
be used as action sequences in the classroom. Make a list of commands for each one.

1) Take the tip of the pencil in the trash

Copy the tasks correctly

Clear the board when the class ends.

2) Read the sentence

Write the sentences

Explain what you understood.

3) Stand next to your partner
