familiar words and environmental print.

BIG IDEAS/ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:

1. What does this picture look like when it is written as a word?
2. How do I spell ……
3. What does this word tell me to do?

OBJECTIVE(S) (Be sure to include all four parts):

The students will be able to strengthen their word/picture Recognition
The students will be able to practice differentiating between verbs and nouns (act like vs monkey, sound like vs
lion)
The students will be able to strengthen gross motor skills

MATERIALS:
prepared animal dice (2 sets)
space

ACTIVITIES (There are three sections here):

OPENING (Introduction, purpose, hook)
To introduce this activity I will have all the children come over to circle, by calling them by gender.
Once all the students are at circle and sitting down, I will ask them to tell me the farm animals we had talked
about throughout the week. After the children respond I will say “Today we have an activity that I will need you
to get up and move for.”
BODY (Bulleted step by step/differentiation must be included)
1. After the introduction, I will separate the students into two smaller groups.
2. Next I would put the children in a circle and give one child the dice
3. I would have the child roll the dice and then all the children do what the dice say
4. After the children do the activity, the dice get passed around the circle until every child has a
chance to roll the dice
CLOSURE (Wrap up and brief summary): How will you plan to restate the lesson objective?
In conclusion, this activity will
1. Strengthen words/picture recognition
2. Strengthen gross motor
3. Promotes healthy activity
4. Encourages active time during the school day
ACCOMMODATIONS/MODIFICATIONS:

Some possible adaptations that could be made are as follows:

1. Could include movements that do not require standing
2. Can help the children who struggle with gross motor rolling the dice
3.
ASSESSMENT: (How you will determine that student has mastered objectives?): Consider formative and
summative assessment measures for all levels of differentiation.
I imagine that the children will enjoy being able to act “crazy” in the classroom. I believe that at some
point the children will get a little too wild and will need brought back together; however, this gives an
opportunity to release some energy. I imagine that the children will continue to act like certain animals or
pretend that they are still doing the activity throughout the day, even after it has been concluded. Observation
could help me be able to evaluate what the children have learned and if they have met my objectives.
