GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Area of Use:
Refineries
Metal Bridges & Tanks
Marine & Offshore cooling towers/platforms.
Structural Steel
Pulp and paper mills
Pipes
Chemical processing plants
As a high performance barrier protection intermediate coating, compatible with 2k- PU
Systems.
ADVANTAGES
Protects metal – long term. With combination of MIO, provide impermeable barrier.
Superior adhesion to various substrates. Excellent resistance to both mild acids & alkalies.
Can be applied in wide range of atmospheric High tolerance to salts & chlorides.
Circumstances.
Prevents rust and inhibits corrosion. Can be applied with Brush, & spray.
Drying process:
1040 Stangard (ST) Epoxy Mastic-IMP cures by addition polymerization method. The Curing
speed process is influenced by the total WFT, the number of coats applied, the ambient air and
surface temperatures and the air circulation.
Drying time
For 100 µm DFT at 25°C in a well-ventilated environment:
Touch-dry: After 60-90 min
Dry to handle: After 6-8 hour
Fully cured: After 72 hours
Overcoating
Brush: 12-24 hour after touch dry
Spray gun: 12-24 hour after touch dry
Application process:
Stirring: 1040 Stangard (ST) Epoxy mastic-IMP must be thoroughly stirred to achieve a
homogeneous Liquid before application. After a maximum of 20 min. re-mixing is necessary.
During the spraying application, the product must be stirred continuously.
Dilution: 1040 Stangard (ST) Epoxy mastic-IMP can be diluted with 5 to 10% (volume on
volume) of Stangard-7000 diluent (for brush application) and 15-20% (Airless spray) and 20 to
25% for air supported applications
Application by brush
Viscosity: 1040 Stangard (ST) Epoxy mastic-IMP is high viscus liquid. For brush application
add 5-10% of Stangard-7000.
Surface Preparation
1-Cleanliness
The most common methods to obtain a clean (and at
the same time rough) surface for the application of 1040 Stangard (ST) Epoxy mastic-IMP are.
a) According to the standard ISO 8501-1 or to the cleanliness degree described in the standards
SSPC-SP10 and NACE nr 2. This means that the surface must be free from rust, grease and
oil.
b) paint, salt, dirt, mill scale and other contaminants. Once the grit-blasting is completed the
surface should be de-dusted with non contaminated compressed air according to the
standard ISO 8502-3 (class 2) or in case of slurry-blasting the surface should be dried with
non-contaminated air.
c) Another method to obtain a clean surface is UHP water-jetting to cleanliness degree WJ2
according to the standards NACE no. 5 and SSPC-SP12 level SC1. But keep in mind that this
method does not create surface roughness.
Previously Painted Surfaces - Must be free of oil, grease or other contamination. For best results,
spot blast exposed areas to be primed. Power tool brushings may be used for minor touch-up.
Shelf life – Although the product undergoes no chemical changes even during very long storage,
some rise in viscosity and some settling may occur after storage for more than one year and it
would be advisable to conduct a small quantity trial when the material is to be used after one year
from the date of manufacture.
Warranty: M/S Stanvac will replace any material found to be with manufacturing defect. Since the
