NAME: PACIS, APHRILL PEARL V.

WARD: PEDIATRIC WARD

GROUP: 3D
CLUSTER: A
CLINICAL INSTRUCTOR: OBERLYN BERBANO

Learning is not only acquired in the four corners of the room. Nurses are taught to expand their
knowledge and skills specially when dealing with a patient. They are taught to be flexible in
every way when giving care and interventions. Skills that have been taught in school is very
different when you are already in the area. There are factors that you’ll meet along the way in
helping your clients.

During our rotation in the Pediatric Ward, I learned how to be more careful in administering
their medications especially we are dealing with children. You can witness here a child who
cries when giving the medication because of the fear seeing the syringe. A baby who is strong
enough to wiggle her feet when getting a HGT test. This are the most common factors you’ll
witness in the Pediatric Ward. Although it’s our first time having a duty in that ward, we still
manage to do our best and able to perform well. Our skill in computing the medications honed
really well because our Clinical Instructor allow us to compute one by one and with that, it
allows us to understand more the doctor’s order regarding with the medications that will be
given to the client. I finished my rotation in the ward with a greatful heart for we are able to
bring the best in me, conquering our fears in administering medications and even establishing
rapport to our patients and most especially the times that our Clinical Instructor always reminds
us about the Five Moments of Hand Hygiene before and after dealing with the patient.

As a healthcare provider, we should be aware with our duties and responsibilities when dealing
with the client especially we are dealing with the pediatrics. It is important for us to protect
ourselves with anything that comes along the way in providing care to the client also to protect
the client from us.
