Nursing is an art: and if it is to be made an art, it requires am exclusive devotion as

hard as a preparation as any painter’s or sculptor’s work. - Florence Nightingale
My Pediatric ward exposure is indeed a great preparation in my nursing career. it
didn't just serve as a preparation but it also helped increase our knowledge in child
care. Being assigned in pediatric area opened my knowledge that the handling of
children and elderly patients is different as There are no patients that are more
difficult to care for than kids. I learned how to be extra careful in dealing with young
patients as they are very fragile and cannot verbally tell what wrong with them.
I’m very grateful that our clinical preceptor during my pediatric ward exposure was
very patient in teaching us what we need to learn in the area. Ma’am Oberlyne C.
Berbano made sure that we’re going to end our pediatric ward exposure with plenty
of knowledge and skill. She thoroughly explained and guided us in preparing and
administering medications as there were no room for errors when dealing with real
patients. Ma’am Oberlyne emphasized the importance of preparing the medications
correctly. I’m amazed on how she managed to guide each one of us in preparing
and administering medications one by one despite of a limited time in the area. The
last rotation was a bit toxic as we had a lot of patient and medications to prepare
but it ended very informative and helpful to us nursing students. I know that my
rotation in pediatric ward served as my training ground if ever I want to purse being
a pediatric nurse in the future.
Knowledge and skills are important in being a care provider but I learned that
attitude towards your colleagues and patients is the most important above all. I
want to express my gratitude to you ma’am Oberlyne for the eye opener advices
you’ve given. I will never forget what your said that we should focus more in our
review rather than pressuring ourselves in the clinical rotation because when we are
all nurses there will be a lot to learn more.
