Monday: Museums Rock!
Monday AM:
- 9:00-9:40 unpack/introductions/camp procedures
o TAKE A GROUP PICTURE
o TAKE INDIVIDUAL PICS OF THE KIDS
- 9:45-10 bring out big box of craft rocks and let kids pick some
o Let them mess with them for a little while so then they can listen for instructions
- 10-10:15 give them 10 minutes to see who can stack the most rocks up the highest—winner gets
to help pass out snack
- 10:30 snack
- 11:00 regather

- 11-12:00 Rock initial craft (letters should be traced in advance)


- 12:00 lunch
Monday PM:
- 1:00 Regather
- 1:15: finish initials craft if needed
- 1:30 go outside and have kids pick 1-2 rocks
- 1:50 go to wetlab and look at the different rocks under the microscope
o See whose is the coolest, have kids vote
o Winner(s) get to help pass out snack
- 2:20 snack
- 2:50 pack up and go outside
- 3:00 play a game (kickball, soccer etc.)
- 4:00 pass out rocks to take home and dismissal
Tuesday: Earth Day
Tuesday AM:
- 9:00-9:15 introductions/unpack
- 9:15- 9:45 Earth’s layers lesson
o Video
o Demonstrate the different layers on the white board so they are easier to understand
o Have the kids ask questions
- 9:45-10: introduce Earth’s layers craft

- 10-10:45 make the craft and label the display
- 10:45 Snack
- 11:15 cut them open
- 11:30 hot glue the planets to the plates so they don’t move
o Free time
- 12:00 lunch
Tuesday PM:
- 1:00 Regather
- 1:15-1:45 talk about how humans impact the Earth
o How it can be good or bad
o Show Videos
o Bad impact
o How to Take Care of the Environment - 10 Ways to Take Care of the Environment -
YouTube
- 1:45-2:00 Show example craft and explain how we will do it
- (obviously not Christmas themed)
- 2-2:30 take handprints and lay out to dry
- 3:00 clean up and snack
- 3:30-4 clean/pack up and dismissal
Wednesday: Volcanoes
Wednesday AM:
- 9-9:15 unpack and introduction to the day
- 9:15-10:00 make our own volcano craft

- 1:40 set up volcano
- 2:00 set off volcano
- 2:05-2:20 clean up
- 2:30 snack
- 3:00 play a game outside
- 4:00 dismissal
Thursday: Outside Rocks!
Thursday AM:
- 9:00-9:15 introductions and unpack
- 9:15 have kids pick out a rock to paint
- 9:30-10 paint rocks how they want (with assistance if needed)
o Paint one an animal/flower something, and do another one just color/tye dye
o Lay out to dry
- 10:00 snack
- 10:30-11:00 pick beads and instruct how to twist wire
o Assist if needed
- 11:00-11:15 put in pics of kids and make sure they stand
- 11:15-12:00 free time to color/play a game

Thursday PM:
- 1:00 regather
- 1:15 talk about how seashells can also be considered rocks and some different kinds
o How do they think shells are made? Talk about it and then watch the video

- 1:40 pass out frames, crayons, and craft shells


o Decorate it how they want
- 2:00 pass out picture we took at beginning of the week and glue it to the frame
- 2:30 snack
- 3:00 pack up and go to stingrays
- 3:20-3:45 pet stingrays
- 4:00 dismissal
Friday: Fossil Friday
Friday AM:
- 9:00-9:30 introductions—what is a fossil?
o What can be a part of a fossil?
- 10:00-10:30 dig for mini dinos (plaster?)
- 11:00 Snack
- 11:30-12 go hunt for fossil material
o Go to the pond and see what can be pressed into plaster/clay to make a press fossil
- 12:00 lunch
Friday PM:
- 1:00 Regather
- 1:15 explain how we will make our own fossils using a pressing method.
o What they found outside they can press into plaster/clay and then removed to keep the
shape

o
- 2:00 clean up
- 2:15-3:00 q-tip dino
o For small kiddos we can trace an outline and have them follow it

- 3:00-3:30 brownie dig for ‘fossils’

o This will be snack for the afternoon

Clay plaster for handprints Enough for each kid to make one
Red, yellow, orange tissue paper Each kid gets one sheet of each
Construction paper A lot
Red, yellow, orange paint Each kid can paint their hand
Stuff to make an exploding volcano Enough for 1 volcano
Rocks to paint 2 per kid
Paint Regular amount
Wire 12 in. per kid
Beads 10 per kid
Craft seashells 10 per kid
Mini dinosaurs 1-2 per kid
Cardstock picture frames 1 per kid
Plaster Enough to bury the dinosaurs
