Transportation as a system and the Philippine Transportation System

A transportation system is a way of moving people or products from place to place. It

also has inputs, processes, outputs, and feedback. The fundamental part of logistics and planning

that involves the reduction of the transportation cost and the enhancement of the delivery times

through effective schedule and route management. It could also define the combination of

elements and their interactions, which produce the demand for travel within the given area and a

system that could help in the delivery of the goods and personnel to their destination. It includes

vehicles, network infrastructure and information technology that is used for both monitoring and

control that could provide information to the users of the system.

The Components of Transportation are; Vehicle, Guideway and Operations plan. Vehicle

are the things that are used for transporting or moving objects, goods and even people that could

be used in land, water, air and even in space transportation. Backhoes in the construction can

also be used as a mode of transportation. There are also some vehicles that the main purpose is

for leisure. While Guideways are one of the most Important of the transportation system, it is

where the vehicles move along which performs as a directional control for vehicle and a support

to hold the vehicle in place. Lastly, operations plan is the process of moving the traffic and

vehicle along the guideway which includes schedules, crew assignments and control systems.

Control system can appear in different forms such as; signs, signals, road markings, barriers and

speed bumps and etc.

The Philippine transport system consists of road, water, air and rail transport. The

existing public transport system in the Philippines relies primarily on jeepneys, taxis, tricycles

and pedicabs, some of which provide door-to-door service.
