What cellular
organelle might you expect to see in larger than normal quantities?
Explain why.

Smooth endoplasmic reticulum is a cellular organelle that I expect


to see in greater quantities than usual. This organelle is especially
prominent in hepatocytes (liver cells), where blood is filtered and toxins
are removed for destruction. In addition, the smooth endoplasmic
reticulum contains enzymes that degrade inorganic poisons such as
alcohol and pharmaceuticals.
