oxide that is being added, the ED of the final ethoxylated product resembles a normal distribution curve as shown in the case of
NP7 in Figure 1. The distribution peak broadens as alkyl phenol, which is a reaction catalyst, is introduced (BRE-LE7) and when
small number of moles of EO are reacted with fatty alcohol, the distribution peak broadens even more severely (BRE-LE7) as a
substantially large amount of EO remains as unethoxylated alcohol, resulting a strong odor of alcohol and minor skin irritation from
consumer products such as hair care and bath products.

Dongnam has managed to develop formulation of the nonionic fatty alcohol surfactant that has a narrower distribution peak mineral oil surfactants of NRE and BRE
compared to other surfactants, by containing less amount of unethoxylated alcohol, low EO addition adducts and high EO addition
adducts.
