Semi – detailed Lesson Plan in General Chemistry 2

Grade 12 - STEM
Prepared by: Allyza A. Sobosobo

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the discussion, the students will be able to:

a. Define electric flux,
b. understand what is charge distribution,
c. solve the electric flux of the problems.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Electric Flux

Materials: Book, Cartolina, Manila Paper, Marking pen, Chalk
Reference: https://www.sciencefacts.net/electric-flux.html
Strategy: 4 A’s

III. PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Setting class standards
4. Checking of attendance
5. Review
6. Motivation

 The students will play the game titled “What’s

Differrent?”. Students all pair up and get 30 seconds to
memorize everything about their partner’s appearance.
When the time is called, they turn away from each other
and change something (i.e. take off a headband or button
another button). Which pair can identify each other’s
changes the fastest?

B. Lesson Proper

Activity

 The students will be divided into two groups and they will answer
the following questions that assigned to them.
Group 1: Find the electric flux through the surface with sides
of 15cm×15cm positioned in a uniform electric field
of E=150N/C.
Group 2: A uniform electric field with a magnitude
of E=400N/C incident on a plane with a surface of
area A=10m2 and makes an angle of θ=30o with it. Find the
electric flux through this surface.

Analysis

 The teacher will gather the work of the pupils and she will check
if each group got the correct answer.

1. How did you find the activity?

2. How did you come up with your answer?

Abstraction

 Charge distribution is an extended collection of charges.

 The number of electric field lines or electric lines of force
passing through a given surface area is called electric flux.

 All flat surfaces have an area associated with them. A

regular geometric surface like a circle, rectangle, square, or
triangle has a well-defined area. Mathematically, a surface is
represented by a vector known as an area vector, whose
magnitude is the quantified area, and the direction is
perpendicular to the surface.
 Mathematically, the electric flux is given by the dot product of
the electric field vector and area vector.

ϕ=→E.→A
 If the angle between the electric field vector and the area vector
is θ, then the dot product can be expanded to give the
magnitude of electric flux.
ϕ=EAcosθ
Application

 Divide the class into two groups. Each group will answer the
following problems.

Group 1: An electric flux of passes through a flat surface

that is perpendicular to a constant electric field of
strength. What is the area of the surface?

Group 2: The surface in Problem 1 is now turned 90

degrees so it is parallel to the electric field of strength.
What is the electric flux through the surface now?

IV. EVALUATION

Direction: Solve the following problems.

1. A square surface with a side length of 4.5 mm is located in a

uniform electric field with a magnitude of 2200 N/C. The angle
between the normal to the surface and the electric field is 30˚.
What is the electric flux through the surface?

2. At the center of a sphere of radius 0.5m a point charge of 2μC is

placed. What electric flux is passing through the sphere?

V. ASSIGNMENT

Direction: Research about the Gauss’s Law.
