How to become vATC in

Adria vACC
Version 1.0
1. INTRO

Welcome and thank you for your interest in becoming a virtual air traffic controller in Adria vACC!

More about vatADRIA you can find on our web. Please read the available policies so you get an idea
of how things work on VATSIM and vatADRIA.

If you are reading this then you are interested in becoming a virtual air traffic controller. What you
need to know is that process is not simple and it takes time, learning and dedication (See Training
Policy on the web).

What you need to become vATC:

1. English language (written and spoken) (mandatory)

2. Basic aviation and air traffic control knowledge (desirable)
3. Knowelage of ICAO alfabeth (mandatory)
4. Free time
5. Request training via Control Center
6. Read your mails

For 2. and 3. Google is your BFF.

Also, what you need to know is that the duration of your training and the time needed to achieve
your ATC rating depends on many things, but the most important ones are your dedication and hard
work, yours and the availability of mentors who will provide you training.

Now, if you understood all of the above, let’s move on to something you must know and obey at all
times.
1. VATSIM Code of Conduct (COC)
2. VATSIM Code of Regulations
2. TRAINING PROCESS

1. Intro session with TD Director where we will discuss training and objectives more precisely.

2. DEL/GND controller test (written) to gain an S1 (student) rating

3. Initial session with an assigned mentor where you will learn how to set up tools needed for
controlling and how to use it.

4. Sweatbox (simulated traffic) sessions with a mentor. Learning basics and preparation for
online training.

5. Online training with a mentor.

6. Sweatbox test to check if you are ready to control traffic by yourself

7. Solo validation where you control traffic by yourself for a month to gain experience and
prepare for your CPT (Controller Practical Test)

8. CPT - your exam to gain TWR controller rating S2 (an online session with vACC examiners)

Voila! You are now an S2 Tower controller. Welcome to the team. Now you can control TWR position
and gain experience. The next step is the S3 Approach controller, but by now you know how the
process goes.
3. TOOLS YOU NEED

1. Euroscope - instructions can be found in #faq-how-to thread on our Discord channel

2. Audio For Vatsim (run install)
3. vATIS (run install)

Even if your training didn’t start, you can connect as Observer and we do encourage that.

5. IMPORTANT TO KNOW

Mentors are volonteers. They don’t get paid for their work. They are just “returning the favour” and
passing knowledge “older” members passed to them.

They are giving you free time they could use to be with their families, friends…etc.

Respect the mentors and don’t waste their time!

If you need any help in the process, we are there for you on Discord!
