It's Wednesday morning and the girls are comfortably sitting down
at their desks waiting for Mr. Parker's tasks for the day. At the
beginning, they used to get nervous whenever they were asked to
do something, but with time, they have learned to feel more
relaxed at work and language is not a barrier any more. It is true
that they don't always fully understand what they have to do, but
with their eagerness to learn and their colleagues' patience and
understanding, they manage to keep going. It's 8:00 a.m. and,
like everyday, Mr. Parker enters the office holding an envelope with
their new tasks.
Mr. Parker: "Good morning everyone! How are you guys doing today? I hope really well (Mr.
Parker says enthusiastically). As you know times are changing and the company needs to
keep updated if it wants to go on leading the sector. That's why today I want you to come
up with suggestions about how to go green at the office. Please, try to be original!"
Think about it
What about you? Have you ever thought about how to go green at the working place? Write
down as may ideas as you come up with and then share them in the forum. Try to be original.
Once you are done, read your classmates' ideas, are they very different from yours?

As we read before, our friends' task for the day is to come up with suggestions about how to go
green at the office.“Uff! How to go green, holy cow! that sounds really difficult!” Lourdes
complains. Susana on the contrary seems quite enthusiastic, especially because lately, she has
read a lot on the matter. For a few minutes they remain in silence trying to think how to organize
the task, however, after a while, both of them realize they have an added problem :“how are
proposals written down in English?”
Proposals.
As we know, proposals can be carried out either orally or written down. let's have a look at both
of them:
When you come up with a new idea, sometimes you need to pitch that idea to other people,
mainly to your boss or colleagues, and therefore the most effective way to convey your project
plans is by creating a proposal. You can write a proposal to share your idea concisely and put your
plan in motion. Here are some tips for you to follow:

Whereas written proposals tend to be more formal, Oral proposals are usually more
informal and therefore, they are quite common in our daily lives. Let's have a look at the
most common words or expressions, always bearing in mind that oral proposals are
mainly used to make suggestions and give advice to people.

verbs in italics represent? And the ones in bold?
Mostrar retroalimentación
Well done! As you may have answered the verbs in italics are in the present simple tense,
whereas the verbs in bold are in the future simple tense. Therefore we can conclude by
saying that "When / As soon as" usually appear on subordinate time clauses followed by a
verb in the present simple.

¡Bien hecho!
simple.

With an average rainfall of over three thousand millimetres per year, and a large amount of running water
from the snows of Mount Canyon , the Embu district, in Central Kenya, has an abundance of water. But the
region lacks infrastructure and many communities are not in the country electrics grids; near the town of Gucha
a number of people have bandaged together to use hydro-power to meet the electricity needs. With UNPD
Peace Global Environment Facilities Help, the community has set up a hydro-power turbine to supply power to
56 homes. The turbine currently provides 20 kilowatts of power, and the community hopes that it will soon
reach its maximum capacity of double that amount. This would enable approximately 150 homes to benefit
from electric power. Traditionally, people in the district have relied on wood and kerosene as the main source of
energy. This means that forests have been destroyed for firewood, and health problems caused by smoky
fumes are all too common.
The small hydro-power plants allow the electricity for most of their needs. Making renewable energy sources
like hydro-power accessible to the poor is one way to address the infrastructure problems in the country. It also
helps to build a more sustainable environment by getting clean energy to those who need it most. In the
Southern African country of Namibia, energy is a source supply, the nation imports 70 per cent of its energy
from South Africa; to meet the rest of electricity needs, Namibians rely on a hydro-power plant to the North,
and on a coal-burning power plant in the capital Bentuk, but power aren't used as common and coal is
increasingly expensive. The country's relatively small population spread out over a vast area making it difficult
to ensure that everyone has access to electricity, but one resource that Namibia has in abundance is sunshine.
Here, UNPD is helping to increase the use of solar energy. The villages in Otjiwarongo, in Central Namibia, have
used different sources of energy until now. With solar panels in every house they have access to a light source
and can use electric appliances. UNPD has been working with a Ministry of Mining and Energy to tap this
energy source and has been helping to fund and manage the solar project, its main objective is to help people
finance the installation of solar energy systems in their homes, as well as install solar panels in public buildings
like schools and health clinics.
