INTRODUCTION

Background:

In the Philippines, there are numerous gender issues, the majority of which are directed at

women. This includes both violence against women and job-related issues. As of January 2021

the percentage of men in labor force is 73.9 percent while the women is at 46.9 percent. Men

have a higher employment rate than women because many people believe that women should

stay at home and care for the children. Gender Equality condition of parity regardless of an

individual’s gender. It addresses the tendency to ascribe, in various settings across societies,

different roles and status to individuals on the basis gender. (Browne, 2021) Gender equality is a

major concern in our society. This issue is still present in our generation, but it is not as prevalent

qas it once was. This is a problem that we face in our daily lives, such as when we go to work.

The issue we are facing is that some companies prioritize hiring a specific gender for a job. Other

genders, such as gays, lesbians, and others, are also being treated unfairly in other areas. They

are being judged based on their gender without knowing who they are. Queer Community are the

one who experience a lot of discrimination and harassment when it comes to their job

opportunity. According to Edrosolano that during their consultation with the experts, they

discovered that many companies believe protecting the LGBTQ+ from the discrimination is not

an important matter. (Casal, 2018) Finding a job is really difficult especially if you are part of the

Queer Community because companies want their employees to be Men and Women. Some

companies believe that having an employee which is part of the Queer Community is a

humiliation.

Rationale:

This will show the progress of the issue in our society. This study is needed to raise awareness in

public that this issue is still existing in the society. This will help our society to maximize their

opportunities. Having this kind of study people will see individual as equal and there will be no

inequality in society. It will shape our future and have freedom on choosing what we want. We

decided to make a MAC on this issue because we want to end it and erase it in the mindset of the

people. All kinds of people will benefit at this article and a lot of opportunities will be possible if

the people read this.

DISCUSSION
Multimodality

One’s idea can be told without being explained further and some would already understand.

However, some people have a hard time understanding certain ideas. With our MAC project, we

intend to express and inform the people of our advocacy in a way that would engage and help

them understand our advocacy better and that is through the use of multimodal text. Since

multimodal text has many forms, we intend to be selective in choosing the proper multimodal

text that could be best in addressing our advocacy. To make our MAC multimodal, we will

combine media, text, pictures and present informative videos to our audience.  In order to present

our MAC efficiently, we will be using linguistic and visual mode since we would focus on

presenting by means of showing informative videos in social media platforms.

Advocacy:

Vission:

By encouraging everyone to treat men and women equally in jobs and chores.

Mission:

To help lessen gender stereotyping by avoiding having biases in jobs and doing chores.

Gender stereotyping is an overgeneralization of characteristics and their societal attributes based

on their gender. Gender stereotyping occurs when a person's characteristics or traits are

perceived to be based on their accepted gender roles in society. People typically encounter this

while doing chores or applying for jobs. Most employers assign a specific gender to each job,

including household chores. Gender equality is important in our society in order to avoid gender

discrimination.

The goal of this advocacy is to break the gender stereotypes that exist in the Philippines. We will

educate people about gender equality in order to avoid having to face a specific gender for a

specific position or chore, which will help to reduce the sexism in our country. Encouraging

everyone to work together to raise awareness about the social issue and to support those who are

affected by gender stereotyping.

We will use our own social media platforms to inform and educate people by sharing

publications containing people's experiences with gender stereotypes, information about the

topic, and informative videos. Using social media to reach a larger audience that can support and

assist us in advocating for others is a fantastic opportunity.

Campaign:

In order to promote and make our goal a success, our group decided to do the campaign through

the social media accounts of each member by sharing, posting and giving the people connected

to us ideas and making them informed of our advocacy and its goal. To explain further, we ought

to use texts, phrases, ideas, clips that are timely to everyone but of course connected to our

advocacy. With that, we’ll be able to easily show them our MAC. The attention of the audience

is very important yet crucial since humans have a very short period of attention span. The

National Centre for Biotechnology Information claimed that the average attention span of a

human, which is 12 seconds, came down to 8 seconds in 2013. I mentioned this since we aim to

inform the audience about our advocacy, a great plan and of course a good output is important to

catch their attention. Since we can’t meet outside and do other ideas rather than doing a

campaign online because of the restrictions brought by the pandemic, we opt not to spend

anything because all of our campaign activities are shared through our own social media

accounts.

CONCLUSION
As we all know that Gender Equality is important since everyone is affected in this social issue.

According to Statista Research Department that as of 2019 and 2020, the average daily social

media usage of internet users worldwide amounted to 145 minutes per day, up from 142 minutes

in the previous year. Currently, the country with the most time spent on social media per day is

the Philippines, with online users spending an average of three hours and 53 minute on social

media each day. As a result, we decided to use social media as a platform for posting our

multimodal text, such as publications, videos, and so on. This campaign will concentrate on

informing people about different people's experiences with gender equality, as well as

inspirational quotes and short videos about gender equality. This campaign will allow us to learn

more about how they truly feel about gender equality. We can also provide a chatroom for

anyone who wants to join, where they can share and tell everyone what they're thinking. We will

make extensive use of social media platforms in this campaign. Because everyone is affected by

social issues, everyone will be the target audience for this campaign, particularly LGBTQIA+

people. They are the most impacted because many companies' target applicants for their jobs are

predominantly female or male. According to CNN Philippines, the Philippine LGBT Chamber of

Commerce and research firm Cogencia conducted a survey of 100 businesses on their anti-

discrimination and equal opportunity employment policies. They discovered zero Philippine-

based companies implementing policies to protect their employees from SOGIE-based

discrimination out of 100. (Casal, 2018) One of the freedoms people seek is to be accepted by

society for who and what they truly are.
