The student proposes establishing a DOST Research and Development Council focused on natural cleaning methods and handwashing stations. This would address the lack of access to soap, water, and alcohol that prevents proper hand hygiene for disease prevention. The council would research extracting antibacterial properties from plants to create natural cleaning products, and design public hygiene stations with input from local communities.

IF YOU WERE TO PROPOSE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN ADDITIONAL DOST
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL IN COUNTRY, WHAT WOULD IT BE? EXPLAIN.
As a nursing student, I would like to suggest “Research on natural cleaning
methods and the establishment of handwashing stations.” In our field handwashing is a must, hand hygiene protects us and those receiving the care we provide. But not only healthcare workers should be doing this, it should be everyone because we all know that a number of infectious diseases can be spread from one person to another by contaminated hands. Washing your hands properly with soap and water can help prevent the spread of the germs (like bacteria and viruses) that cause these diseases. The government continuously stresses the importance of washing hands to fight against COVID-19, and not all citizens have access to alcohol, soap and even water. In order to successfully incorporate the need for this practice as well as lower the danger of illness, DOST should give priority to building public hygiene stations. To design prototype tools connected to the construction of these stations, they should also enlist the assistance of nearby academics and residents, either at the university or at home. Additionally, research can be done to use natural resources like plants to extract anti- bacterial properties and turn them into products, commercializing them in the process as a replacement for the medical goods, due to the temporary halt in the manufacturing industry of medical utilities (alcohol and soap).
