Primary fuel, such as coal, is a natural resource from an energy standpoint. It is assumed that
the plants and animals that made up these fuels lived in earlier geological times.

2. IS IT RENEWABLE OR NONRENEWABLE?

Due to its long formation time, coal as a primary fuel source is a nonrenewable energy
source. Coal is made up of the energy that was once locked up in plants that inhabited marshy forests
hundreds of millions of years ago.
