ABSTRACT

An electric motor is on electrical machine that converts electrical energy into

mechanical energy. Most electric motors operate through the interaction between the
motor's magnetic field and electric current in a wire winding to generate force in the
form of torque on the motor shaft.

The purpose of an electric motor is to convert electrical energy into mechanical

energy. Mechanical energy can then be used to power everything from heavy,
industrial machinery to everyday tools and appliances such as hair dryers. Motors
turn electrical energy into rotational motion called torque, many robots use the torque
provide by motors to make their wheels spin or to move the jointed part in their arms
or legs. These motors are known as actuators. The simple motor built in class uses a
coil that is a temporary electromagnet.

When electricity is passed through a wire coil, as you are doing when you
connect the coil to the battery you create an electromagnetic field, which pushes the
coil away from the magnet. When you give the coil a spin, since on side of the wire is
insulted, you break the circuit briefly. So the coil continues to rotate using its
momentum. When the circuit is complete again the magnetic field once again repels
the coil, so it keeps spinning. The motor can continue to spin until the battery is dead.
This is the process Step 1: materials and tools you will need to create a simple motor,
Step 2: creating the copper wire coil, Step 3: sanding the ends, Step 4:building a rig to
hold the coil (part 1), Step 5: building a rig to the coil (part 2), Step 6: Attaching the
magnet and step 7: Testing your motor.

In our first try it didn't work because the coil was heavy and the magnet was
small so it didn't spin, but we did it this way we replaced it with a lighter coil and
bigger magnet so it spins, In addition we put a block on the sides so it doesn't move
and the copper wire that we used is tinner
