Hello everyone. Welcome to our presentation.

It’s my pleasure to be here to talk about the two

topics we have prepared, that is employment opportunities and safety issues in Logistics. Now
let’s get started with our first topic.
I. Employment opportunities
We have learned a lot about Logistics. So who can tell me what is Logistics? Just be confident to
raise your hand so that we can listen to your answer…
Thank you. It’s a good answer. By the way, it also has a different definition.
1. What is the Logistics?
- Logistics is the design and administration of systems that are customized to meet specific
requirements of raw material, work-in-process good, and finish inventories at the lowest total
costs.
- Logistics is also known as a process of planing and excuting efficient transportation and
storage of goods, services, or information from the point of origin to the point of location
where there is a demand.
- That definition includes a lot of parts in a process from the start point to the end point. Along
with that, there’s a variety of opportunities for all of us.
2. The status of the logistics industry in Viet Nam
- The term “Logistics” has only appeared in Vietnam in the last few years, since 1990s.
- Vietnam is considered as a potential and attractive market for the development of the
logistics service industry. Logistics is an important service industry in the overall structure of
the national economy, playing the role of supporting, connecting and promoting socio-
economic development of the whole country as well as each locality, contributing to
improving competitiveness of the economy.
- According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in 2018, Vietnam's logistics
industry grew about 12-14% compared to 2017. The number of transport and logistics
enterprises is currently 3,000 enterprises operating along roads, railways, sea routes, inland
waterways, airways…
- The potential and opportunities for Vietnam's transport and logistics industry to develop
further in the coming time is huge.
- Currently, human resources for the logistics industry are seriously in shortage. So, in the
current and future, the Logistics industry have employment opportunities available for
students. Logistics is the connection between manufactures and consumers, with job
opportunities in all types of businesses, in all business fields, and of all sizes.
- The Center for Forecasting Human Needs and Labor Market Information in Ho Chi Minh
City, given the survey results in the period of 2020 - 2025, the human demand in Ho Chi
Minh City is forecasted to have about 310,000 - 330,000 jobs each year, of which Logistics
sector accounts for 5%.
3. Professional terms in logistics
a) Sales Export – Export salesman
- This position can be considered the most demanding in the import and export segment. They
need to have all skills in foreign languages, communication, negotiation, persuasion... In
addition, they also need to understand foreign trade operations: payment, documents,
customs...
b) Purchaser
- They are in the position of buyers, so they are well received from partners. This position
needs to be agile (nhanh nhẹn), sophisticated ( tinh vi, lanh lợi) and have specialized
knowledge such as Sales Export.
- The basic job of the Purchaser is to buy the cheapest, best quality goods. And it is also
necessary to provide timely supply for enterprises to produce, to avoid delaying the
company's process.
c) International payment officer
- International payment officer is one of the most common positions in the import-export
industry. This position, you need to be very good at English. Understanding the export and
logistics sector is extremely necessary. It is also necessary to understand the UCP 600 (The
Uniform Custom and Practice for Documentary Credit) standards and other international
principles.
d) Documentation (Docs)
- The documentaries are usually people who do office work, customer support. This profession
requires caution as they work with numbers, papers and contract documents. The advantage
of the position of voucher officer is stability (ổn định), no sales pressure.

import-export industry. Hard work is often suitable for young people, men. Ops does not
require too high a level like other positions.

II. Safety Issues

1. Why is the loss of labor safety a big concern in Logistics industry?

- The Logistics industry vitally ensures the storage and delivery of goods around the country.
However, the hazardous nature of its operations means that the industry has a high accident
rate. This is partly due to the size and weight of some of the loads involved and the vehicles
and equipment required to transport them.

- All employees need to follow safety procedures to avoid accidents. Injuries and fatalities
occur when employees are not careful.

2. Commonly overlooked safety issues in Logistics: this part will have 6 commonly
problems

a) Stress

- Stress affects workers in every industry, including manufacturing, healthcare,

transportation, and energy. Long days combined with an increased workload, financial
pressures, job instability all add up to tired, frazzled employees

- Not only can stress lower productivity, but also put workers at risk for physical and mental
illness including anxiety, depression, and even suicide.

b) Distractions

- Staying safe depends on a worker’s ability to pay attention to their surroundings and
anticipate potential hazards.

- Among these distractions, using smartphone to surf fb, tiktok,... and headphones to listen to
music are common contributors to workplace accidents. The distraction may be due to
fatigue or some family factors of the employees.
c) Slips, trips & falls

Falls are a leading cause of workplace accidental deaths. Construction workers are at the
highest risk of fatal falls, but falls can happen anywhere - even an office. And while most
safety professionals are aware of measures that must be in place to prevent falls from heights.

d) Covid pandemic

The Covid pandemic has raised awareness about the risk of spreading illnesses at work, and
the need for employees to stay home when they’re sick. The pandemic has not only affected
the health of workers but also affected the smooth operation of logistics. If operations in
Logistics are interrupted, the supply chain will break down and the outside cannot support
the people who are sick.

e) Bullying & harassment

Bullying and harassment are often considered an HR issue. Yet, they can have a serious
impact on workers’ physical and mental health. Research shows that victims of workplace
harassment may develop anxiety, depression. It has also been linked to increased drug use
and, in the most serious cases, suicide.

f) Safety systems

Collecting and analyzing safety data from frontline workers, such as incident reports and
near miss observations. This system will ensure the safety hazards of electricity, water and
tools in the workplace. Without these systems in place, safety leaders miss out on valuable
insights that could help prevent injuries and accidents.

3. Solutions of safety issues in Logistics: there are many solutions to solve safety issues
but my team will list 5 the most effective solutions for this issue

- Employees need to wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)

- Create a safe and heathy place to work

- Lockout/ tagout procedures reduce the risk of electrocution.

- All areas of the warehouse have first aid kits in case of injuries.

- Organize training and manage employees who must work seriously and understand safety
issues.
