Discover more fun in Siquijor Island!

Known as the Mystic Island of Central Visayas, Siquijor is the southernmost island in the Visayan Island Group. It
is about 30 kilometers southeast of Negros Island and about 50 kilometers from the closest point of
northwestern Mindanao. It is composed of six municipalities namely Enrique Villanueva, Larena, Lazi, Maria, San
Juan and Siquijor.

During the Spanish time, the island was called Isla de Fuegos or Island of Fire. The reason for this is that
Spaniards who were exploring the Visayas area at that time noticed that the island is covered with twinkling lights
during night time. But in reality, these were just fireflies covering the molave trees which are said to be their
home.

The island is a serene place ideal for those who want to get-away from the hustle and bustle of city living. It is a
haven for hikers, bikers and nature lovers. White sandy beaches cover the 102 kilometers of shoreline
surrounding the island while mangroves and marine sanctuaries dot the island, providing a safe haven for its
pristine marine life.
Rationale

Tourists are drawn to tropical islands due

to its peaceful and clean environment
along with its natural beauty. A get away
from noisy and crowded city life to relax.
The reason why we chose this project is
because since tourism is one of our main
sources of income, we thought that helping
tourists navigate throughout the island of
its natural wonders could potentially
increase the island's annual profit thus
connects to the growth of the economy of
local communities. We also thought that by
making a website that was easy to use and
that shows images, directions, history, we
could show off the island's famous
landmarks and undiscovered hidden
treasures. By doing so, people that have
been to the island could promote it to other
tourists through social media platforms.
