Research Problem

This research aims to find the effects of social isolation on the Junior Highschool Students of
Philippines School Doha. Online learning, becoming the new normal adaptation for students as
of today, has set us to adjust with the following; studying, student’s class participation, and
social interaction due to the pandemic. There are similarly positive and good effects on learners
with the usage of zoom and social media being their only sources of communication within one
another. One of the effects that was gathered from online classes is social isolation, which is the
center topic of our research problem. Social isolation is formed due to the absence of social
contact with other people. This can lead to loneliness wherein it affects students from interacting
with one another including their academic learning and studies. We have chosen this as our
topic for the reason that social isolation commonly occurs to a lot of students on a daily basis,
and it is a serious matter especially when their performance and will to learn are at risk. We are
willing to help them determine what could be the effects of this social isolation to their studies in
order for them to formulate ways to bring back their communication skills and motivation to
learn. We want teachers and parents to know how much of a big effect social isolation can have
on their academic learning and the difference between social interaction. To give more brief
effects of social isolation; one example of which is the noticeable build up of the mental health
condition, social anxiety. It is a serious mental disorder that will be a factor for the student to
stay focused on class. Moving on to the questions we would like to be asked; other than what
are the effects of social isolation, why do students get social isolation from online
classes/learning? What could having social interaction bring to the academic learning and
studies of the students?
