BENCH VICE
o The most commonly used vice is the engineers
parallel-jaw bench vice, some times called
fitters vice. It must be firmly fixed to the bench
with nuts and bolt

o The vice essentially consists of a C.I body

o This vice having fixed and movable jaws both


made of cast steel

o Jaw plates are made by cast steel

o Handle, square thread rod, nut made by MS.


This jaw plates are fixed in to jaws by means of
set screws and that can be replaced when worn.

o The holding faces of the jaw plates have teeth


for holding the work firmly.

o The movement of the vice is caused by movement


of the screw rod connected into the handle, the
screw rod is placed under the movable jaw and the
screw is provided with a collar inside to prevent it
from coming out of the jaw when revolved

o The maximum opening being 95 to 220mm

hold the jaw at the top and it is hinged in the
bottom
