"Passive Voice"
Objective of the unit: The student will exchange
information about actions, facts and processes
where the emphasis is on what happens or
happened and not who does it to relate to their
work environment.

The active voice is the one we normally use in which
there is a subject that performs an action. So far, all
normal.

The passive voice is used when we want to focus


attention not on the subject, but on the object or person
affected by said action. Therefore, although the normal
order of sentences in English is Subject + Verb + Object +

emphasize the object or person affected by the action
Generally, in our day-to-day language we use the active
voice a lot, in which the subject is the one who performs
the action. However, very often we also use the passive
voice without realizing it, when the subject remains
passive and emphasis is placed on the person or object
that experiences or receives the action.
We usually change sentences to the passive voice in
English when we want to show interest in the person or
thing that is the object of an action and not in the
person or thing that performs this action. And we also
use it when we don't know or don't want to mention
