Lesson Plan in Science

Content The learners demonstrate understanding of different organization go through life cycle
Standards which can be affected by their environment.
Competency Compare the stages in the life cycle of organisms (S4LT-IIg-f-13)
Objectives At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to:
1. Define what metamorphosis is;
2. Differentiate complete and incomplete metamorphosis;
3. Name the different stages in the life cycle of organisms;
4. Participate actively in class activities.

TEACHING PROCEDURE
Discovery Teaching Approach using 4A’s Learning Cycle Model

Part of the Learning Activities Annotation

Lesson
Elicit Activity 1: Pick and Tell
The pupils will be tasked to pick the picture of plant from table and ask
them to tell its specialized structure.

Another set of pupils will be called to name the habitat of the plant
whether terrestrial or aquatic.
Plants Specialized Habitat
(These will be presented Structure (Terrestrial or Aquatic)

Pineapple thorny leaves terrestrial
Cactus thorny stem terrestrial
Waterlily flat leaves aquatic
Lotus flat leaves aquatic

pupils will be asked

After having guessed the hidden word of the picture, the pupils will be
asked to construct a sentence out from revealed words. This will serve as
springboard for the lesson of the day “Stages in the Life Cycle of
Organisms.”

Explore Activity 3: COMPLETE or INCOMPLETE METAMORPHOSIS

For the pupils explore the new lesson, the class will be grouped into two.
Group 1 is task to fill in the correct cycle of complete metamorphosis
while group 2 is assigned to spot the correct stages of incomplete
metamorphosis.

Compete: Compete:
1. Egg 1. Egg
2. Larvae 2. Nymph
3. Pupa 3. Adult
4. Adult

After doing this activity, the pupil’s output will be set aside for the pupils
will be the one to check their work after watching the video clip in the
next activity.

Explain Activity 4: Watch and Learn!

In this phase, a short video clips will be played for the pupils gain an
explanation the different between complete and incomplete
metamorphosis.

Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPUyATxqHfU

Guide Questions:
1. What was the video all about?
2. What is metamorphosis?
3. What are the two types of metamorphosis?
4. What are the different stages of organism’s life cycle in a complete
metamorphosis?
5. What are the different stages of organism’s life cycle in an
incomplete metamorphosis?

After watching and processing the guide questions, the teacher will revisit
the pupil’s output in the “engage” phase to check whether it is correctly
done or not.
Elaborate Activity 4: Arrange Me! In this part of the
In this phase, the pupils will be divided into four groups. Each group is lesson, English is

elements of a short
story known as plot.

A short report will be held as soon as the pupils are done in the activity.

Evaluate Activity 5: Remember this, Way!

In this part, the teacher will supplement on the different stages in a life
cycle of organisms.

A. Complete metamorphosis
1. Egg – the first stage cycle of insect. Female insect lay egg.
2. Larvae – the second stage. Hatch from egg but do not look
like adult insect.
3. Pupa - the third stage. Larvae make cocoon around
themselves and busy changing into their adult form.
4. Adult – the last stage. Larvae is nothing like it was, and exits
the cocoon or larval body as an adult.
B. Incomplete metamorphosis
1. Egg – sometimes the egg are group and protected by a
covering or case.
2. Nymph – are look like small adults but usually don’t have
wings.
3. Adult – once the nymph has grown to an adult size.

Extend Activity 6: What I Can Do?

In this phase, a GIF pictures of lice on head, mosquitos, cockroaches and
flies will be flashed.

Guide Questions:
1. Are cockroaches, mosquitos, lice, and flies useful or harmful?
Why?
2. At what stage of their life cycle are you going to eliminate them?
Why?

Adapting the multi-intelligence approach, the pupils will be working in

group to come up with an artistic presentation portraying the harmful
effects of those insects mentioned-above.

Group 1 – Musical Inclined Group

Harmful effects of cockroaches.

Group 2- Bodily Kinesthetics Inclined Group

Group 3 – Verbal Linguistics Inclined Group

Group 4 – Visual Inclined Group

Assignment Activity 8:
1. Think of other animals or insects which undergo complete and
incomplete metamorphosis aside from the examples in the lesson.
Draw their life cycle.

2. Give at least 5 ways on how to keep or store the seeds properly.

You can ask a nearby farmer if possible.
