Week One: Discussion Board (DB)

From the Youtube video, Dr. Bruce expresses several big ideas related to the neuroscience of
learning and more specifically, to how neuroscience and education may come together to provide
a solution to cognitive learning especially for young children. Throughout the video, he delves
into big ideas but I was captivated by at least two ideas he presented.

First, the idea that every individual’s brain works differently and that may explain why some
children earn faster than others. It is a simple idea, but it explains why, for example, some
children may see the course of their life change simply because they didn’t muster grade four
content before proceeding. Secondly, the idea that by studying the children’s neural activity,
neuroscientists are now able to collaborate with educators and impact real change amongst
school going children.

Week One DB 2: Action Research Question Refinement

Abstract

It is a proposal for an Action Research that is intended to evaluate how best to administer
learning to young children in ways that are compatible with the wiring of their different brains.
The plan specifically targets young children between the ages of 4-8 in Early Childhood
Development.

Problem Statement

The first years of learning are crucial in determining the trajectory of these kids’ lives. If these
kids grow past this age without proper guidance regarding what learning methods work for them,
it may lead to a lack of interest in education. Currently, more than 40% of young kids go past the
fourth grade without having mustered the content at that level

Research Questions.

What is their current learning aptitude?

What current methods of learning seem to be working?
How do the students develop their own earning mechanisms?
How do they become engaged in learning?
