ABSTRACT
There are various interventions that are applied to mental disorders which is a
psychological human problem and has a high prevalence rate in Gen Z and
music therapy is one of these interventions. Music Therapy is one of the
expressive therapies that are applied in within the perspective of
psychotherapy, counselling, or health care.

INTRODUCTION
With the speedy development of society, the requirements for talent training
are getting higher and higher, and the academic burden of Genz's who are not
yet full of wings is increasing. These negative emotional disorders can have
many negative effects on their physical and mental development. In the past,
researchers have mostly focused on negative emotions, focusing on how
individuals can better cope with the negative emotions that have arisen.
Today, with the rise of positive psychology, researchers are focusing on
positive ways to prevent negative emotions and events from occurring. Mental
health education activities in schools/colleges should be based on the
education and development of Genz, the development of positive
psychological qualities, the realization of psychological potential, and the focus
on the prevention and resolution of various psychological behavior problems in
the developmental process. From this perspective, music belongs to an
attribute within the category of ideology, which is mainly determined by the
socio-economic base and superstructure, while the ideology also reacts to the
socio-economic base and superstructure.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

1. To know if music is relevant for a Gen Z.
2. To understand if the effect of music is positive or negative among Gen Z.
3. To determine whether music therapy enhances socialization.
4. To know if there is enough awareness about music therapy in a Gen Z
and does it promote wellness among each other.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This survey method focuses on providing and insight on the effect of music
therapy on the Gen z’s minds in Mumbai has been chosen as the research
methodology for this particular study. The data collected from individuals has
been put to healthy tests and their interpretation would be useful while
making any conclusions.

SAMPLE
A sample of 100 individuals comprising the age group of 13-22 years with the
most of them listening to music and knowing about what exactly is music
therapy.

MUSIC THERAPY AND IT’S EFFECT ON THE GEN Z’s MINDS IN MUMBAI
While there is limited research specifically focused on the effects of music
therapy on Gen Z individuals in Mumbai, there is evidence to suggest that
music therapy can have a positive effect on the mental health and wellbeing of
individuals, including those in the Gen Z population.
Studies have shown that music therapy can help to reduce symptoms of
depression and anxiety, improve mood, and enhance cognitive function in
individuals. It has also been found to be an effective tool for stress reduction
and relaxation.
In addition to these benefits, music therapy can also help to improve social
skills and promote emotional expression and communication. This can be
especially valuable for the Gen Z population, who often face social and
emotional challenges as they navigate the complexities of adolescence and
early adulthood.
It's worth noting, however, that the effectiveness of music therapy can vary
depending on the individual and the specific condition being treated. It's
important to consult with a qualified music therapist to determine whether
this form of therapy may be beneficial for a particular individual.
Overall, music therapy can be a valuable tool for promoting mental health and
wellbeing in the Gen Z population, and may offer a safe and effective
alternative to traditional forms of treatment for certain conditions.
Through music therapy, Gen Z individuals can learn to regulate their emotions,
express themselves more effectively, and develop coping strategies for
managing stress and anxiety.
It's important to note that the effectiveness of music therapy can vary
depending on the individual and the specific condition being treated.
Therefore, it's essential to consult with a qualified music therapist to
determine whether music therapy may be beneficial for a particular individual.

PRIMARY DATA ANALYSIS & INTERPRETATION

While conducting the survey respondents were asked a bunch of questions
which were further analysed.

The pie chart helps us understand that 98% of the respondents listen to music
as music provides a total brain workout.
In this chart, we can see that most of the respondents have selected 1-3 hours
as that many hours is more than enough to listen to music.

81% out of 100 respondents have selected Happy as Music is something that
gives relaxation to our soul, refreshes our minds and helps us energize for the
day.
83% of the respondents have voted for yes as Music therapy is an evidence-
based treatment that helps with a variety of disorders including cardiac
conditions, depression, autism, substance abuse and Alzheimer's disease.

99% of the respondents feel that music positively affects a person’s mood as
active music-making positively affects neurotransmitters, such as dopamine
and serotonin, that influence mood.
51% of the respondents have voted for Sometimes, this is because many
people listen to music while they’re carrying out a task, whether they’re
studying for an exam, driving a vehicle or even reading a book which
eventually distracts their focus, but sometimes music helps you concentrate by
blocking out distracting noise which modifies your mood.
This is because once your brain interprets the sounds, your body can feel that
spine-tingling effect of music that makes you happy.

66% of the people have voted for yes as when you meditate with soothing
music playing, it will provide you with a lot of calm. Gentle music creates a
calmer environment which makes meditation more effective.
Majority of the respondents which is 60% have selected the yes option as
music can make you feel more optimistic and positive about life which indeed
reduces your stress level. Also, calming music can help to settle your mind.
