1. In Fig., find currents 𝐼20𝛺 and 𝐼30𝛺 , 𝐼25𝛺 and IT, and voltage drops V1, V2, and V3,

𝑉 𝑉
I1 = I2-3 = IT = I1 + I2-3
𝑅 𝑅

90 𝑉 90 𝑉
= = =3A+2A
30 Ω 45 Ω

=3A =2A =5A

Voltage drops V1, V2, and V3:

V1 = I1R1 V2 = I2-3R2 V3 = I2-3R3

V1 = 3 A × 30 Ω V2 = 2 A (20 Ω) V3 = 2 A (25 Ω)

V1 = 90 V V2 = 40 V V3 = 50 V
2. Solve for the total resistance RT.

1
RT = 1 1
+
30 Ω 45 Ω

= 18 Ω

3. Solve for the total resistance PT.

PT = ITVT

= (5 A) (90 V)

= 450 W
4. In the figure below, solve for IT, RT, R2, V2, V3, V4, V5, V6, I2, I3, I4, I5, and I6.

𝑉 𝑉𝑇
I1 = RT = V6 = I6R6
𝑅 𝐼𝑇

5.4 𝑉 30 𝑉
= = = (30 mA) (100 Ω)
180 Ω 30 𝑚𝐴

= 30 mA = 1 kΩ =3V

IT = I6 = I1
𝑉5
V5 = VT – V1 – V6 I5 =
𝑅5
IT = I6 = 30 mA
21.6 𝑉
= 30 – 5.4 – 3 =
1.8 𝑘Ω

= 21.6 V = 12 mA

𝑅3 𝑅4
R7 = I2 = IT – I5 V3 = I2R7
𝑅3 +𝑅4

(1 𝑘Ω)(1.5 𝑘Ω)
= = 30 mA – 12 mA = (18 mA) (600 Ω)
1 𝑘Ω + 1.5 𝑘Ω

1.5 𝑘Ω
= = 18 mA = 10.8 V
2.5 𝑘Ω

= 600 Ω so, R2 is 18 mA V4 is also 10.8 V

𝑉3 𝑉4
I3 = I4 = V2 = V5 – V3
𝑅3 𝑅4

10.8 𝑉 10.8
= = = 21.6 – 10.8
1 𝑘Ω 1.5 𝑘Ω

= 10.8 mA = 7.2 mA = 10.8 V

𝑉2
R2 =
𝐼2

10.8 𝑉
=
18 𝑚𝐴

= 600 Ω
