How technology and digital platforms have contributed to the practice of strategic HRM?

In today's generation, companies have already became advanced when it comes to pursuing and making
their specific goals into reality. In a company, there are known subparts or various managements that
are allocated into different purposes, and one of those is the HRM - or known as the Human Resource
Management.

As a recap, Human Resource Management focuses on the people or the workforce. In other words, this
is a strategic approach to ensure that there is a support for the people working for the company and
there is safety within the workplace environment.

According to Asma Niaz (2017), "It has been conventionally proved that Information and Communication
Technology (ICT), such as the Internet, mobile communication, new media, and such in HR can greatly
contribute to the fulfillment of personnel policies of the organization. Technological advancement can
have a huge impact on the HR department of an organization. It allows the company to improve its
internal processes, core competencies, relevant markets and organizational structure as a whole." This
proves that technology and digital platforms are really beneficial for the goals of strategic Human
Resource Management. But how? Let's dig deeper.

First is in recruitment. Companies usually have their social media pages or websites wherein they easily
and conveniently post there to advertise and inform anybody who's interested for recruitment. With
this, it helps the company find applicants easier without spending a lot of time and fund. Having no
Facebook page or website page has a tendency that the company might go underrated and unknown for
many as it will limit the audience or people that they can reach. With this, it will be hard for the
company to seek for enough employees that may affect the performance and rating of the company.
Same is through with the phase of application. Companies already uses and requires applicants to
submit their application form through online platform in order to access them one by one without any
hassle and is helpful too in saving time. A face-to-face interview might not hurt though but it will be
causing a long span of time which will make it harder for the company to choose from those applicants
who are suit or not to the slots of works. Tendency of this is that the company might lose focus on the
company and might take over time checking with the applicants.

Another is providing the employees educational and training programs that may help them to improve
in doing their job. Advanced technology help in a sense that it would not just be a simple lecture, which
is having a lecturer and the employees just sitting down there and all ears. Advanced technology are
used to demonstrate well and discuss further the topics with visualizations and unique way that might
be more preferred by the employees. Having these kinds of educational and training programs can
develop the skills of the employees that will not just benefit them, but also the company itself.
Employees would be more informed and knowledgeable about what to do which can help make the
company's performance more excellent and developed.
Next is ensuring that the workforce has been getting enough support and getting a safe workplace
environment for them. Having advanced technology makes the work of the employees much easier as
they tend to work with the help of the advanced equipment. For example, having a smooth and brand
new computer set for the call center agents employees. Plus, a strong connection and advanced
software that can help them conveniently approach the customers. With this, employees are enabled to
do their work excellent and beyond their capabilities, which helps the company to attract more
customers as service seems to be well. Another example is a manufacturing business. It is a good idea if
the management tend to apply advanced technology to give support to the workforce and make them
work conveniently but at the same time enable them to have a better work with the help of the
advanced equipment and tools. Supposed this company sells breads and pastries. The company might as
well provide the workforce a complete advanced set of baking tools which not just be a help to them but
also to save time. It might cost a little but it will surely enhance the workforce which makes the company
grow bigger.

One as might as well is on delivering fair and equitable appreciation acts and reward as well. Where do
technology and digital platforms enter here? One example is that, there is that so-called device wherein
employees can tap their finger on it and their fingerprint are being scanned for their attendance (for
time in and time out). With this, the company could easily monitor the attendance of the employees
which would enable them to acknowledge those who are obedient and need to be rewarded for special
and courageous act. Some companies also do this acknowledgement segment wherein they choose
employee for the month. Instead of just posting the printed paper inside of the office or the company
workplace, companies use their social media accounts to acknowledge their employees and show
appreciation. With these, it melts the hearts of the employees and encourages them more to do their
job well and excellent. This will be a big help for the performance of the company.

Strategic Human Resource Management is a big help for the company to seek success by setting goals. It
is a vital part as it has focus on the most important factor inside the company, the workforce. And with
the help of technology and digital platforms, the strategies made by the management will be easily
applied and used which will be a good factor for the company to arrive with success.
