Behavior procedure to be taught: Whole Group Instruction

Location for expectation: Classroom

Rationale-tell why following the rule is important:

• Students who meet this expectation are able to learn more as we will be
productively using our school time together.
• Students who meet this expectation are more likely to help everyone remain
focused and remain on task.
• Students who follow this procedure help their teacher feel valued

Expected Behaviors:

C-Level 0 (Voices are off, I may raise my hand if I have a question or comment I need to
share.)
H- If I have a question, I may raise my hand and wait to be called on. I will also raise
my hand to speak or answer a question during direct instruction. Anything else will wait
unless it is an emergency.
A- I sit at my desk, facing the board for our instruction unless another direction is
specified. I do not bring anything with me unless specifically directed.
M- I sit in my chair facing the teacher, keeping my hands and feet in my own bubble. I
do not get up to leave the classroom during whole group instruction time.
P- I answer questions willingly when prompted, raising my hand unless another
direction is given. I am being thoughtful about what is being said and staying focused.
S- Success!

Unexpected behaviors:
➢ Playing with items in/on my desk
➢ Talking when I have not been called on
➢ Not paying attention to class instruction and direction

Opportunities to practice and build fluency: We may have more group-instruction time at
the beginning of the year, but have shorter meeting times. That way, students are much
more likely to be successful in being quiet for the length of time expected and
respectful. They can build up stamina in order to be focused and on task for longer.

Acknowledge expected behavior/Reinforcement opportunities: I will give verbal praise to

the class, thanking them when they are being quiet and respectful and encouraging
them by how much we are getting done. We will follow successful whole group
instruction time with a brain break.
Monitor: In whole group instruction, I will be in front of all of the students so it will be
easier to see what everyone is doing. I will most likely be able to hear if students are
talking when they should not be, and also catch students who are not being on task.

Correct: If I notice students talking or not paying attention, I will give a brief verbal
reminder to stay on task or provide reasons why we need to be on task at the moment.
If behavior continues, there will be a whole class warning.
