Recovery Status of Tourism Business from Pandemic

OVERVIEW:

Tourism is one of the sectors most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. With social

distancing and health and hygiene protocols likely to be maintained for the foreseeable future,

contactless service delivery and investments in digital technology could be a fundamental bridge to

recovery. Additionally, continued travel restrictions and a looming global recession threaten to make

the industry is one of the slowest to recover. This has implications beyond the tourism economy.

Because many other sectors that support tourism are also heavily impacted, the tourism economy

has shown resilience to previous shocks, but the path to recovery is highly uncertain given the sheer

magnitude of the crisis and the combined nature of the economy and public health. International

tourism activity has resumed to some extent, but remains very limited.
