“Drugs take you to hell, disguised as heaven.

” — Donald Lyn Frost

Greetings everyone! I am ______, ________, _______ and we are your reporters for today.
Properly used drugs can save lives and cure illness, while abuse drugs can destroy lives and cause death.
As rational people, we must take this seriously and that’s why we are here to fill everyone up with
information about drugs.
REPORTER 1- To begin, let us consider what a drug is.

REPORTER 2- A drug is any substance that is used to diagnose, treat, relieve, or prevent disease. This
chemical or substance has an effect on a person’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Drugs can
be classified as legal or illegal, prescription, or non-prescription, or based on their effects on the body’s
systems.

REPORTER 1- Now that we've defined what a drug is, let's look at its classification. Prescription or
non-prescription drugs, legal and illegal drugs, and pharmacological classifications are the three types of
drugs. Let us first define prescription and non-prescription drugs.
REPORTER 3- A. Prescription or Non-Prescription Drugs

REPORTER 3- 1. Non-prescription drugs, also known as over-the-counter (OTC) drugs are those that
do not require a doctor’s prescription to purchase. They are available in drugstores.

REPORTER 3- 2. Prescription drugs are restricted drugs that can only be legally purchased when
prescribed by a doctor. Drugstores will not sell you the medication unless you have a prescription.

REPORTER 1- So in other words, non-prescription drugs are also known as the over-the-counter (OTC)
while prescription drugs can only be legally purchased when its prescribed by a doctor. Now let us talk
about legal and illegal drugs.
REPORTER 2- B. Legal and Illegal

REPORTER 2- 1. Legal drugs are substances that are not prohibited by a country’s laws. Medicines are
considered legal drugs. These medications can be prescribed by doctors and purchased from
pharmacies. When people are sick, they are allowed to buy and take them. If the medication was
prescribed by a doctor, the patient must take it as exactly as directed.

REPORTER 2- 2. Illegal drugs are substances that are illegal under national law. The laws may take it
illegal to sell, buy, use, possess, or manufacture drugs. Any of these acts is punishable. There are some
drugs that are legal in other countries but are illegal in the Philippines, such as marijuana. If a country
penalizes the use or even possession of a specific drug, that drug is considered illegal. If you are caught
with or using illegal drugs, you will face legal consequences and the possibility of prison time.

REPORTER 3- In short, legal drugs are substances that are not prohibited by national law, whereas
illegal drugs are prohibited by national law. And at last we can now talk about the Pharmacological
Classifications.
REPORTER 1- C. Pharmacological Classifications
REPORTER 1- There are 5 types of Pharmacological Classifications which are:
1. Stimulants

2. Depressants

3. Hallucinogens

4. Narcotics

5. Inhalants

REPORTER 1- These drugs, regardless of classification, are dangerous if not used properly. The
majority of these substances are psychoactive drugs that have an effect on the central nervous system.
They have the ability to alter moods, feelings, personality, and behavior.

REPORTER 1- Because of the high potential for abuse, the law impose strict controls on controlled
substances’ possession, manufacturing, sale, and distribution. Controlled drug abuse, such as stimulants,
depressants, narcotics, and hallucinogens, is considered illegal drug use, especially when done without a
prescription.

REPORTER 3- We have completed the definition of drug classification. I'm sure some of you still have
a lot of questions, so we prepared some questions that some of our friends here can answer.
REPORTER 3- Allow Ms. Danisha Acera to respond to this question. What exactly is drug addiction,
Ms. Acera?
DANISHA- Substance use disorder, also known as drug addiction, is a disease that affects a person's
brain and behavior, resulting in an inability to control the use of a legal or illegal drug or medicine.
Substances like alcohol, marijuana, and nicotine are also classified as drugs. When you're addicted, you
may continue to use the drug despite the consequences.
REPORTER 3- In short, drug addiction can begin with the experimental use of a recreational drug in
social situations, and for some people, the drug use progresses to more frequent use. Thank you Ms.
Acera.
REPORTER 2- What effects can drugs have on someone's health/life? That is the question we have for
Ms. Theresa Doble.
TESSA- Different types of drugs can have different effects on your body, and the effects of drugs can
vary from person to person. Drugs have both short and long-term effects. These consequences can be both
physical and psychological. Drugs can alter how you think, feel, and act. Making sure you understand the
risks can help you avoid potential harm.
REPORTER 2- In other words, drug use can have an impact on both short- and long-term health,
including both physical and mental health. Thank you Ms. Doble.
REPORTER 1- Allow Ms. Kassandra Romualdo to respond to this question. How can we raise
awareness in order to prevent/reduce drug use?
KASSANDRA- We can provide them with information on how to address their drug problems, such as
emphasizing how drug use can affect the things that are important to them, attempting to persuade
her/him to enter a treatment program, or attending a group meeting.
REPORTER 1- Thank you Ms. Romualdo.
REPORTER 2- Allow Mr. Ken Reyman to respond to this question. What are the advantages and
disadvantages of drugs?
REYMAN- The advantages of medicines are the beneficial effects they provide when used, such as
lowering blood pressure, curing infection, or relieving pain. Medicine risks are the chances that
something unwanted or unexpected will happen to you when you use them. Drug use can result in
dependence and addiction, injury and accidents, health problems, sleep problems, and other
complications. Drug use has an impact on you and those around you.
REPORTER 2- Thank you Mr. Reyman.
REPORTER 3- Why do people continue to use drugs? Let us have Mr. Ken Glimada answer our last
question.
GLIMADA- Many times people use drugs because they want to get "high". They've heard about the
euphoric effects of drugs. However, some people use drugs to deal with mental and emotional distress.
There are also those who use drugs out of curiosity. They've heard about the effects of drugs, but they
want to see for themselves. Because of their stage of brain development, this is a particular concern for
teenagers and young adults. Drugs are frequently regarded as "cool" by teenagers. They can be used to
"fit in" or establish oneself among peers. This could be due to a simple desire to belong or to social/peer
pressure.
REPORTER 3- Thank you Mr. Glimada.
REPORTER 1- In conclusion, a properly administered drug can save lives and cure illnesses. Doctors
prescribe this medication to prevent improper use and overdosing, which can help us live longer lives and
avoid illness.
REPORTER 2- Drug abuse can destroy lives and kill people, but it can also destroy your humanity,
family, and friends. People abuse drugs to relieve stress, curiosity, or to fill a void, and the cycle
eventually leads to addiction. It has the potential to destroy a person emotionally, socially, economically,
legally, and physically.
REPORTER 3- As rational beings, we must take this seriously. Increase our understanding of various
types of drugs and their effects on our bodies. We can learn by reading and watching testimonies of
people who have struggled with drug addiction. And with the assistance of our family.
GROUP 2- To keep from falling into the trap of drug and alcohol abuse stay smart, strong, and active.
Say No!
