CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM
INTRODUCTION
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) found that a significant number of
Philippines public school students are absent from school, for various social reasons, emotional
reasons, and psychological reasons. reported being concerned about being absent from school
in Reason (Greenfield, 2002). This student behavior is detrimental not only to our education
system, but also to our country. Not only do we take risks, we contribute to an increase in
student numbers and negatively impact the education system and the state of the country.
These not only affect schools by preventing educational leaders from maintaining a continuous,
information-gap-free and effective educational program for their students, but also affect
students and families socially and emotionally. It challenges society to determine how to provide
its human needs (Reed, 2000).
Students who arrive late to class not only disrupt the time slot but also the lecturer and
other students. If a lecturer is mid-sentence, perhaps sharing a crucial point, they will be
interrupted or disrupted by a student who arrived late, which will cause them to lose focus on
the point they were going to make. In order to prepare pupils for the industry, punctuality must
be emphasized. In order to reduce tardiness overall, policies must exist and be actively
monitored in schools.
According to Fuller (2013), tardiness among students has its own negative
repercussions. It is emphasized that lateness or tardiness is not just a problem for the late
student but also, it can affect the surrounding people. Students are late for a variety of reasons,
but being late to their classes can become a negative habit that can cause either poor
performance at school. When a student arrives late for class, the other pupils become distracted
and the lesson's flow is disrupted.

The teacher's discussion is even burdensome for the late pupils' fellow students. inquire
what you should catch up on (Nakpodia and Dafiaghor, 2011). Additionally, tardy students run
the risk of falling behind on their assignments. They may experience tension as a result of
having to complete chores they missed, and it could even result in additional stress.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study's goal is to identify those aspects that influence students' tardiness and come
up with solutions.
Specifically, this intends to answer the following questions:
1.What are the reasons of the students for being late?
2.Is tardiness have a negative impact to their academic performances?
3.How will students avoid this hobby of lateness to their class?
SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
The study will be conducted within the Senior High School Marcial O. Ranola Memorial
School. The research will be focusing on the factors affecting the tardiness of the Grade 11
students revolving around the tracks of TVL and Stem. Each strand will have 5 respondents,
therefore. This study will be having a total of 10 students, mixtures of male and female students.
Survey questionnaires will be used to know the major reasons of why students are always late
as well as assessing related factors underlying there with. All of the information gathered
provided by the respondents will be used to confirm the causes of the problem that is stated
earlier. The result of the survey will then contribute insight in identifying and planning the
possible remedies being identified in addressing the problems being gathered which needed
proper and immediate solution.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This research will benefit society as it becomes a tool for responsible youth. Responsible
teenagers are essential for national development Growth to become a better country.
This study will also be significant to the school for they will produce well-disciplined
students who is punctual in all classes and different events inside the school. Those students
will contribute a lot to the development of the school for having a better quality of educations.
Teachers. A teacher who witnesses a student being late becomes alarmed and
interested in immediately taking the action the student needs. The study is also beneficial for
them as it allows us to know the different factors that influence student tardiness.

Parents. Having responsible children is a blessing for any parent. This study serves as a
way to change children's attitudes towards being role models for good students.
Educational establishments Since of this study, educational institutions like the
Department of Education (DepEd) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) will be able to
supervise properly and manage schools around the nation because they will be aware of the
factors causing students' tardiness.
The students. All of the students will benefit from this research because they will learn
how to stop their poor habits of being late. They will grow as individuals and get closer to the
subject, which will help them reach their goals and earn satisfying scores.

Future Researchers. Through our research study, future researchers will be able to learn
more about this particular topic and receive assistance from us as they conduct their own
research study.
