આવના છે . ખાસ કર ને િવ ાથ ઓને સહજ, સરળ એવી વેશ યા, િનવાસ માટ હો ટલની ુ ભ સવલત,

અ યાસ િવભાગ છે . કોવીડની િવપ રત પ ર થિતઓમાં આ િુ નવિસટ એ સામા જક જવાબદાર િનભાવતી કોવીડ

ટ ટગ લેબની થાપના કર છે . આ દશને િવશાલ દ રયાકાંઠો અને બી બા ુ સાત ડુ ાની પવતમાળા યાપેલ

વષ વનોના જગલો
ં મ યાં છે . એમાં વસતા ૂળિનવાસીઓની થાિનક બોલીઓ ુ ં સંશોધન-સંવધન થાય તે માટના

સંશોધનો કરવાની િુ વધા અહ મળે છે . સમાજ, સં ૃિત, ભાષા, િવ ાનના િવષયો, મેનેજમે ટ, ામ િવ ાના

િવષયો ઉપરાંત રુ ત ઔ ો ગક શહર હોવાથી એને લગતી કલ કળવના ું વાતાવરણ મળે તે માટની િુ વધાઓ

આ િુ નવિસટ ારા આપવામાં આવી રહ છે .

MESSAGE FROM I/C REGISTRAR

The University has its existence for about five decades and catering the need of seven districts in South Gujarat
region. The University aims to provide the students with adequate facilities for the pursuance of higher education.

Appropriately renamed as ‘Veer Narmad South Gujarat University’ after the name of Veer Narmad, who were
essentially a teacher and a social reformer. Our University is rooted in the soil of South Gujarat where some of the
most glorious events like the historic Dandi March took place. Inspired by the visionary social reformer, Veer
Narmad, our University is committed to cater to the needs of the South Gujarat region, including the remote tribal
areas.

Our committed, experienced and dedicated teachers with an aptitude for research in different areas of learning,
provide opportunity mainly, to Post Graduate, M.Phil. and Ph.D. students, not only to receive the information of
phenomenon but also to explore and examine the same from different perspectives by exposing them towards real life
situations and laboratory experiments. Adopting such an approach for higher education, our University is committed
to provide innovative solutions to growing needs of human resource development. Not only the academic milieu, but
our administrative staff is also committed towards achieving the goal of excellence in governance and overall goal
of serving the students to their utmost satisfaction.

Our campus is equipped with all basic amenities required in the journey of knowledge building. Our University has
excellent infrastructure facilities-Buildings, Furniture, Equipment, Internet, Libraries, Laboratories, Hostels,
Sports Complex and other supporting services. The University has wi-fi campus.

It gives me great pleasure in placing before you the prospectus of post-graduate programmes for the academic year
2022-23. The Prospectus provides all the details pertaining to different post-graduate courses offered by the
University, eligibility criteria for admission, fee structure, scholarship, hostel facilities, etc. I am sure that the
Prospectus is exhaustive with all particulars regarding the admission procedure, which will help the aspiring
students. I convey my best wishes to all aspiring students. You are welcome to make any suggestions for improvement
of the prospectus.

The University has introduced centralized online admission procedure from last few academic years to ensure
transparency and expedite admission procedure.

About University
The vision of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, as envisaged in the University Act, is to
contribute to the field of higher education in the region and enable its inclusive development in all walks of
life by making available trained personnel in various branches of human knowledge, keeping in mind the
larger goals of nation-building. The University is committed to maintain high standards in both
undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, promoting research and undertaking the requisite extension
activities that would reach out to every section of society.

Veer Narmad South Gujarat University has endeavored to be an institution of excellence in higher
education since its existence, keeping in view the regional needs and the emerging trends in the global
scenario. A semi-urban University located at Surat City, the University has a campus spread over 210
acres. The University has been re-accredited with A grade by the National Accreditation and Assessment
Council in 2017. The university was originally established under the South Gujarat University Act, 1965
passed by the Gujarat State Legislative Assembly. It became functional from the academic year of 1966
and was incorporated as a University on 23 May, 1967. Recognized by the University Grants Commission
in 1968, it was renamed as Veer Narmad South Gujarat University in 2004 after the great Gujarati poet
Narmad, Narmadshankar Lalshankar Dave. The mandate of the University is to meet the developmental
needs of the seven districts and two Union Territory in the region and attempts at realizing their potential
in every walk of life ranging from technology, business, industry and commerce to language, culture and
fine arts. The basic objectives of the University as envisaged by the University Act are:

 Undergraduate and Post-graduate teaching, maintaining their high standards, and award of
degrees to the candidates successful in their respective examinations.
 Promotion of research and extension activities relevant to the requirements of the region in
accordance with the interests of nation building.

Campus Profile: Infrastructural and Academic Avenues

The University campus spread over in 210 Acres of land. The campus houses more than 100
buildings. The infrastructure of the University is being continuously augmented to serve its students and
facility effectively. Following amenities and student centric centers are available on university campus.
University Central Library that houses over 203629 books, 1043 journals, 2333 thesis, 11271
dissertations, 7 project reports, 1796 e-books, 73 e-journals, 16555 back volumes, 5 databases and
5000 UGC Infonet online titles, has ‘Acharya Mahapragya Corner’, ‘Pujya Mota Sahitya Corner’, ‘OSHO
Corner', ‘Geeta Press Gorakhpur Corner’ and 1799 rare books published before 1947. In the Library
which has good collection of volumes on non-violence and spiritual values. Library has journals in the areas
of Management & Administration, Humanities & Science, Science & Technology and Law. Valuable archive
of national importance.

Fees and refund
1. Students who want to avail admission will be required to pay full Tuition fees.
2. Registration Fees, once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances.
3. If a student chooses to withdraw from the programme of study in which he/she is enrolled, the
institution concerned shall follow the following five-tier system for the refund of fees* remitted
by the student ( 05/03/2020 Syndicate resolution No 21)

Note: *
(1) In case of (1) in the table above, the HEI concerned shall deduct an amount not more than 5% of
the fees paid by the student, subject to a maximum of Rs.5,000 as processing charges from the
refundable amount.
(2) Fees shall be refunded by all HEIs to an eligible student within fifteen days from the date of
receiving a written application from him/her in this regard.
Transfer certificate and eligibility certificate
1. A student who is a graduate of the University other than Veer Narmad South Gujarat University
shall be required to obtain a certificate of Eligibility from the office of Veer Narmad South
Gujarat University (Academic Section) before he/she can be registered as a Post Graduate
student. If necessary he/she may obtain a Provisional Eligibility certificate before applying for
registration as Post Graduate student. The Final Eligibility Certificate should, in any case, be
obtained by the students before the end of the first term/semester of the relevant course.
2. The student himself/herself shall be responsible for presenting all the requisite certificates and
documents. Failure in doing so, may result in cancellation of his/her admission. No application for
refund of fee on account of the cancellation of the admission due to the failure of the student in
completing the formalities of admission in presenting any certificate or document will be
entertained.
3. A student seeking admission from any College or department of Veer Narmad South Gujarat
University shall have to produce a Transfer Certificate from the college or University Department
last attended by him/her.
4. A student intending to take Post Graduate Degree in a different subject from the one for which
he/she has been registered himself /herself afresh by paying the prescribed registration fee. Such
registration will be permissible only if an application in this behalf is received by the University
through the Head of the University Department / Incharge of the approved/ recognized Institution
in the new subject concerned latest by 31st August of the relevant academic year.
If as a result of change in the subject it is necessary for the student to change the Post Graduate
Department / P.G. Centre / approved / recognized Institution concerned his/ her tuition fee paid
earlier shall be transferred to the new Post Graduate Department / P.G. Centre / Approved/
Recognized institution where his / her name as a Post Graduate student for the new subject is
enrolled.

Attendance
1. The applicant should have passed the qualifying Post - Graduate Degree/Diploma Examination of
this or any other University in the branch of study to which admission is sought for. He/she shall
also declare that he/she has fully understood the scheme of Post Graduate instruction and that
he/she is willing to devote full time to his/her Post graduate studies.
2. The minimum attendance required for granting a term or semester of a student shall be 75% of
the total number of days on which classes have run in a given term/semester in each every. For
Post-Graduate classes 75% of attendance shall be counted on the basis of lectures and practical,

work, drawing, project etc. to be attended by a student. However, in case of a late admission
either on account of revision of examination or being on the waiting list of admission the
attendance for the first term/semester shall be counted from the date on which the late admission
is given.
A student, whose attendance is falling short by 40% in the first term of the academic year, shall
be required to attend classes in the Second term so that total attendance of the Second term shall
be 90% of the total working days of the Second term. However, this will not apply to that the
faculty where semester system is in operation.
3. A student who falls short of minimum attendance for keeping the term on account of sickness may
be condoned if an application is received by the University within three days of the conclusion of
the term through the Head/Professor-In-Charge of the Department/Centre/ the Director-In-
Charge of the approved Institution with a specific recommendation in each case along with a
Medical Certificate of a registered medical practitioner indicating the specific days for which the
student was under his treatment.
A Principal of a College/Head of University Department / Co-ordinator of Self Finance
Department or Self Finance Programme or the Director-In-Charge of an approved Institution is
empowered to condone the deficiency in the requisites attendance of Post-Graduate student who
is required to leave the department/centre/an approved Institution for the purpose of taking part
in university sports and other extra-curricular activities or in Inter-university sports on behalf of this
University, to the extent of the period for which he/she remains unavoidably absent from the
Department/Centre/an Approved Institution.
Note: For the P.G. Rule No. 13 and 14 the powers for condonation of debility in case of a self-
financed course shall be with the Dean of the respective Faculty who will examine this paper after
thewho will recommendation of the Co-ordinator of that programme is received.

HOSTEL FACILITIES

Fresh applications must be made every year for admission to any part/session of the
respective Post - Graduate Degree / Diploma course and also for accommodation in hostel.

Five Hostels for Boys and Six Hostels for Girls are commissioned by the University and Hostel
accommodation is at present provided to a limited number of students. However, Principals of the
colleges, where the Post Graduate centres are located will be requested to provide Hostel
accommodation to out-of-town students as far as possible, for which the students shall have to
apply directly to the Principal of the concerned college. A separate application is required to be
submitted after getting admission in the respective course.

The Semester Fees and other Fees payable per term for Indian Students are as under.

If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the university authority, the authority would
expel him/her from the university.
Punishable ingredients of Ragging
• Abetment to ragging,
• Criminal conspiracy to rag,
• Unlawful assembly and rioting while ragging;
• Public nuisance created during ragging,
• Violation of decency and morals through ragging;
• Injury to body, causing hurt or grievous hurt;
• Wrongful restraint;
• Wrongful confinement; Use of criminal force;
• Assault as well as sexual offences or even unnatural offences;
• Extortion;
• Criminal trespass,
• Offences against property,
• Criminal intimidation;
• Attempts to commit any or all of the above mentioned offences against the victim (s);
• All other offences following from the definition of “Ragging”.

“Ragging means any disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has
the effect of teasing, treating or handing with rudeness to any other student, indulging in rowdy or
undisciplined activities which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or
to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student or asking the students to do any
act or perform something which such student will not in the ordinary course and which has the effect of
causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or
psyche of a fresher or a junior student.
Punishment:
Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offence as established by the Anti-Ragging committee
of the institution, the possible punishments for those found guilty of ragging at the institution level shall
be any one or any combination of the following:
• Cancellation of admission
• Suspension from attending classes
• Withholding/withdrawing scholarship / fellowship and other benefits.
• Debarring from appearing in any test / examination or other evaluation process.
• Withholding results
• Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet,
tournament, youth festival, etc.
• Suspension /expulsion from the hostel
• Rustication from the institution for period ranging from 1 to 4 semesters.
• Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution
• Fine of Rupees 25,000
• Collective Punishment: When the persons committing or abetting the crime of ragging are not
identified, the institution shall resort to collective punishment as a deterrent to ensure
community pressure on the potential raggers.

Department of Biosciences (UGC-SAP DRS-II & DST-FIST-I) is a premier academic and research institute of the South Gujarat region in the field of life
sciences established under the developmental grants of UGC during the IV Five-year plan. The department offers M.Sc., M. Phil. and Ph. D. courses in

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT


The Department of English began functioning from June, 1970. It offers various academic programmes in English: Master of Arts (M.A.), Master of Philosophy
(M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). The Department offers the core courses like history of English Literature, Women’s Writing in English, Indian Writing
in English, Literary Criticism and Theory, World Literature in Translation, and Multidisciplinary Courses like novel and psychology, and novel and history.
Further, it also offers optional courses in Women’s Writing in English, English Language Teaching (ELT), Indian Literature in English Translation, New Literatures
in English, and American Literature. The coursework of M.Phil. and Ph.D. Programmes includes core content courses in Research Methodology, Modern
Literature and Literary Theory, and optional content courses Like Translation Studies and English Language Teaching.
The Department has, at present, seven faculties in all, consisting of three Professors, three Associate Professor, and one Assistant Professor, out of which six
are recognized as Research supervisors for M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes in English. The publications by the faculties of the Department address a wide range
of research in Humanities. The Department has had a large number of M.Phil. and Ph.D. scholars to its credit, with research conducted in the areas like British
literature, American literature, Afro-American literature, Indian Writing in English, Indian literature, Comparative literature, English Language Teaching (ELT),
Translation Studies, Post-Colonial Studies, Gender Studies, Children’s literature and other emerging areas of interdisciplinary research in Humanities.
In the recent past, in addition to the talks by eminent Professors from other universities, the Department has organized many national seminars in the areas
of Translation Studies, contemporary Indian drama, Children’s literature, partition literature and English Language Teaching. A national workshop on Gandhi’s,
Martin Luther King’s and Alfred Korzybski’s thoughts was organized in collaboration with Balvant Parekh Centre for General semantics and Other Human
Sciences, Baroda. Further, two international conferences have been organized in the areas of translation Studies and Alfred Korzybski’s General Semantics in
academic collaboration with Balvant Parekh Centre for general Semantics and other Human Sciences, Baroda.
Department of English is located on the Ground Floor of the Humanities Building, VNSGU campus. It has four class rooms for M.A.
students, one seminar paper presentation room for M.Phil/ Ph.D. students, one library/ reading room, a Ladies’ room, an Equipment
Room, a Meeting Room, a Seminar hall, a Departmental officeroom, separate office rooms for Head of the Department and other
faculties.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT


The Department of Gujarati (UGC-SAP-DRS-I) is well-furnished and well-equipped newly established department and sanctioned by the Government of Gujarat
having donation from Mr. Hitesh Patel. Research work done at M.Phil. & Ph.D. levels include Inter-disciplinary Studies, Modern and Post-Modern Literature,
Feminism, Partition Literature, Literary Journalism, Comparative Literature, Post-Colonial Literature, Tribal Literature, Minority and Dalit Literature and
Linguistics, etc. The department has so far produced 28 Ph.D. and 7 M. Phil. students. The Department regularly organizes seminars and workshops on the
thrust areas of contemporary interest. The students are motivated to participate actively in self-skilled and self-learning innovative activities through
exclusive seminars, ‘Padya Sabha’, ‘Gadya Sabha’, Audio-Visual presentation of Literary discourses and films, etc. The Department has established an excellent
linkage with different Literary organizations and associations related to Gujarati Language and Literature such as Gujarat Sahitya Akademi, Kendriya

The Department is interior design establishment as result of several forces of the design fraternity who came up together to create a platform for the

teaching with competence to assimilate the multiple dimensions of architectural task to govern a qualitative built interior environment. The student is

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT


Mass Media play a vital role in the development of an individual, society and the nation. With the rapid growth of mass media in India; education and
training of young students in mass media skills has assumed great significance. The Department provides a comprehensive blend of practical skills and
theoretical knowledge. Teaching methods are varied: classroom teaching, workshops, film screenings, quiz, library work, presentations, field work, lab
work, and so on. Student enrichment is also done through hands on practical work: radio production, audio-visual production, pre and post production,
blog creation, DTP production, social media content creation and so on. All this leads to wide array of employment opportunity to the students inmass
media, private sector, advertising agencies, Government Information Department and NGOs. The programme seeks to foster acquisition of critical
thinking amongst students so that they understand the relationship between the production, reception and construction of meanings in mass media

The department of Information and Communication Technology (J. P. Dawer Institute of Information Science & Technology) was established with the
launching of 5 years integrated M.Sc. (Information Technology) course. M.Sc. (IT) is a unique program combining various facets of computer applications,
electronics, communication and business systems. Since 2005, the department offers 2 years M. Sc. ICT Programme. The goal of M.Sc. (IT) and ICT
programs is to prepare students with intellectual and professional skills with breadth and depth of knowledge, in order to enable them to fetch
challenging career opportunities in an ever-changing world of Information and communication technology. Most of the M.Sc. (IT) and M.Sc. (ICT) students

Programmes. In addition to the academic, the department is vigorously involved in the research also. Department of Law released first issue of
research journal- Journal of Law on 11th March, 2014 in the auspious presence of the luminaries. Department published an annual newsletter

The Department of Public Administration is one of the earliest PG departments of this university and the oldest University Department in the State of

ABOUT DEPARTMENT
Mahatma Gandhi Department of rural Studies inculcates diagnostic abilities in the students so as to make them competent to identify the root causes of
the problems faced by rural people. It is one of its own kind of interdisciplinary department having strong roots in learning, research and extension.
The PG curriculum of the course is mainly classified in social science and agricultural science related subjects. From the academic year 2013-14 the
department is offering specialization in Rural Development and Natural Resource Management at MRS. Department has organized a number of National
and Regional level seminars and workshops. Department is vigorously involves in census survey and social audit of an industries and village/ town.
The department has so far completed nearly 50 research projects and published more than 400 research papers and more than 20 books. Faculty
members have brought the honor to this department by working as experts in various state and central government agencies, commission,
department and bodies. Student of the department is actively involved in the extension and co-curricular activities. The students of our department
prepare "Integrated Village Development Plan" using local resources. These plans can be used by the district administration for development of
villages identified under Adarsh Gram Yojana.

The Department was established in 1970 as a joint Department of Mathematics and Statistics and mathematics section later got separated as a
separate department. The department aims to train students in the development and applications of Statistical techniques for analyzing data arising in
the scientific investigation of problems in various disciplines. It also provides first hand practical experience in handling modern statistical software
packages in the analysis of such data. In the present scenario, it is rather impossible, even to think of any field which does not employ modern
statistical tools to arrive at rational conclusions from research studies and a statistician is always an indispensable part of any research team carrying
out any research investigation. In order to enhance professional competence of the students and faculties, they are encouraged to participate in
