Do you agree that clothes make the man?

To start with, we have always been told that its what is inside that counts, and "the
clothes do not make the man". However, I disagree with this statement.
The way I see it, clothes do indeed make the man. There is no doubt that how one is
dressed on different occasions results in different responses from people.
For example, if one wears a police uniform, people will subconsciously acknowledge
them as an authority figure. Some people will feel more secure, some will smile and
acknowledge them, and some will look with suspicion. The same goes for firefighters,
military, doctors, etc. So clothes are absolutely "making the man" in those cases.
On the other hand, if one wears a hood and lets their pants hang below the beltline,
people will respond to that too. It becomes a starting point, and it will open or close some
doors for the person, before they even have a chance to say anything,
To add to that, the way one dresses can modify the way they behave. Men who are
dressed sloppily hold themselves, often slouching and speaking inarticulately. In a suit
the same man holds himself straighter and with more grace. So one can say clothes
makes the man in that way too.
Furthermore, one's style of dress allows others to get a hint of their character. One could
have several styles of dress. A person's many styles of dress mean they have many
characteristics. Clothes do not always make the man, but they can lead us to hypothesize
about their character.
Therefore, when I see a person wearing all dark clothes and looking gothic, I see them as
having a very strong character. They want to be their own person, be unique. They have
to be strong knowing how society portrays them. Maybe they have to dress this way for
their job, and after work they go home and put on jeans and a t-shirt.
In conclusion, I would like to say that, how you dress defines you, if you wear pajamas
going for an interview you will be treated like a lunatic, if you dress formal and neat you
will be treated with respect, so therefore clothes makes the man.
