 Intro to the Chicano movement
In the 1960s, a radicalized
Mexican-American movement began
pushing for a new identification. The
Chicano Movement, aka El
Movimiento, advocated social and
political empowerment through a
chicanismo or cultural nationalism.

● The strike was called the Delano Grape Strike
● Caesar Chavez went on 25 days hunger strike in 1968.
● The organization NFWA advocated to empower migrant
farmworkers and to improve their wages and working
conditions.
● Outcome: create bilingual and bicultural programs,
improved conditions for migrant workers.
● Dolores Huerta advocated for the correction of
economic injustice.
● The political movement that supported the chicano
movement was the Raza Unida Party.
