Funerals
Indonesia
Indonesia is so diverse that there are many different types of funerals. The funeral of the
Torajaland is big and involves specific requirements to secure their family’s good fortune
in the future. They also believe that they must follow through these specific tasks to
guide the spirit of the deceased into the afterworld. The Toraja bury their dead in stone
tombs that they carve into the cliffs and place wooden effigies in front to guard the dead
and intimidate trespassers.

Philippines :
Filipino funerals are much more extensive as they have a wake that can last up to 9 days.
There is also food and dancing at Filipino funerals. The burial process is as different as
night and day. Roman Catholic Filipinos bury their dead in flower-filled coffins, wearing
their finest with keepsakes.

While they appear to be completely different, they have one similarity. The both in a way
have two separate parts to the funeral. Roman Catholic Filipinos have a procession that
takes the body to Mass before being buried in the ground. The Toraja place their dead on
top a tower for viewing before burying it in the side of the cliffs.
