country’s oldest popular national literary magazine. He has two volumes
of poetry, three storybooks for children, and a number of critical essays published in national and
international journals such as Malay Indonesian Studies, Philippine Studies, Bulawan Journal of Philippine
Culture and the Arts, Daluyan, and Unitas. Some of his poems have been translated into English and Bahasa
and anthologized in international publications such as the 35th Anniversary S.E.A. Write Award Anthology
(2013), The Sounds of Asia (2011), The SEA Write Anthology of ASEAN Short Stories & Poems (2008),
Antologi Puisi dan Kemanusiaan (2004), and ASEANO: An Anthology of Poems from Southeast Asia
(1995).

Some of his written works are based in real life situation in which it emphasizes the importance of the
story itself. Example is his award-winning poem “putol”. According to a researcher, he created this for the
sake of puberty, a factor that they do not have opportunity or jobs in which they make evildoing such as
burglary of materials, pervaded of selling body organs, and selling of drugs, for sustaining family support in
living. In this poem, Michael Coroza conveyed to the readers that Philippines is a country that is experiencing
difficulties. The structure of a poem is like a shape of a foot, that if you would read it, you wouldn’t
immediately notice the importance of the foot in the poem.

Philippine literature is indeed diverse in terms of culture, morals, and beliefs. His written works will enhance
contemporary Filipino literature. Due to his remarkable work, this will increase the reputation of Philippine
literature in the international community. The traditional Philippine poetry genre "balagtasan" that he
promoted internationally is already an honor for the country. Through appreciation of diversity, international
individuals can accept and appreciate the contemporary Philippine literature. Sharing different cultures is more
about appreciating literature reference, but it paves the way for a new world where Filipinos meet the
standards. The legend of Philippine literature in the growth of ingenuity through literature is whom we met.
