(1) Importance of the document.

The document reveals the reasons behind the Philippine revolution during Spanish
times how they treated the Filipino’s, the war of independence, and the government
that Emilio Aguinaldo established. Moreover, it explains the real meanings of the
Philippine flag.

(2) Background of the text author (Aguinaldo).


Emilio Aguinaldo was a Filipino revolutionary, statesman, and military leader. He is
recognized as the first and youngest president of the Philippines and the first
president of a constitutional republic in Asia. Also, a leader who played an important
role in the Philippine Revolution and independence of our nation.

(3) Context of the document.


June 12 1898, the independence of the Philippines was proclaimed in Kawit, Cavite
alongside the unfolding of the Philippine flag made by Marcella Agoncillo, Lorenza
Agoncillo and Delfina Herboza and the Philippine National Anthem was composed by
Julian Felipe. A declaration prepared by Ambrosio Rianzares Bautista, the said
document was signed by 98 people, marking the move that would hopefully
empower the Filipino people in their fight against the Spanish and lead to the
realization of the global community of our newfound independence, a united front
against the usurpers of our land.

(4) Contribution of the document in understanding Philippine History.


The document is all about the one of the most important milestone and event of our
history which is the “declaration of the Philippine independence”. It gives us an idea
on how the heroes of our nation fought against other invaders just to achieve the
freedom of our nation despite the hardships they’ve been through. Furthermore, it
enables the people specially the youth to appreciate and give importance on our
history.
