Reading the Proclamation of the Philippine

Independence
Every year, the country
commemorates the
anniversary of the
Philippine
independence
Proclaimed on June 12,
1898, in the province of
Cavite.
Indeed, this
undertaking is a
significant turning
point in the history of
the country because it
signaled the end of
the 333 years of
Spanish colonization.
The declaration was a
short 2000- word
document, which
summarized the reason
behind the revolution
against Spain, the war for
independence, and the
future of the new republic
under Emilio Aguinaldo.
Written by Ambrosio Lianzares Bautista also known as

Don Bosyong later translated by Sulpicio Guevara an


author born on year 1904.
•Ambrosio Lianzares Bautista was born on December
7, 1830, at Binan, Laguna, Captaincy General of the
Philippines.
•The declaration of Philippine Independence was
proclaimed on June 12, 1989, in Viejo (kwait, Cavite)
at the balcony of General Emilio Aguinaldo residence.
•The declaration Was signed by 98 person’s.

of the Philippine
independence
A re- examination of the document of the
declaration of the Philippine Independence can
reveal some often- overlooked historical truths
about this important event in Philippine History.
1. The document refers the general revolutionary
sentiment of the period.
2. The Proclamation also given us the impression
on how the victorious revolutionary government
of Aguinaldo historized the struggle for
Independence.
3. There was mentions of past events that were
seen as important turning points of the movement
against Spain.
4. However, the katipunan as the pioneer of the
revolutionary was only mentioned once toward the
end of the document. There was no mentioned of
the katipunan’s foundation. Bonifacio and his co-
founders were also left out. The enmity between
Aguinaldo’s Magdalo and Bonifacio’s Magdiwang in
the katipunan is no secret in the pages of our
History.
5. The point is, even the official records and
documents like the Proclamation of
Independence, while truthful most of the time,
still exude the politics and biases of whoever
is in power.
• This also manifest in the selectiveness of
information that can be found in these
records.
• It is the tasks of the historians, thus, to
analyze the content of these document in
relation to dominant politics and the content of
people and institution sorrounding it.
In conclusion, this document tells us a lesson
on talking primary sources like official
government records with in the circumstances
of this production.
Studying one of the historical subjects, thus
entails looking at multiple primary sources and
pieces of historical evidences in order to have
a more naunced and contextual analysis of
our past.
The Proclamation of Philippine Independence
document is important to the whole country
because use it serves as the proof being
independece of our country from the colonists.
This document summarizes and express all about the
events happened during the conquest by colonists in 300
years.
The government issued document can proved us that our
country and it’s people were freed from the colonists and
implies that we have the right to live without any hindrances
and we also have equality.
It also teaches us to be more independent. It also teaches
us to be more independent and to fight for ourselves and
for country in order to exercise our right to live with
freedom, peace of mind and unity among with others.
