 CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background

On October 1, 2022, a fatal crowd suppression incident occurred after a football match at
Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency, East Java. Following home team Arema's loss to rivals
Persebaya Surabaya, around 3,000 Arema supporters entered the pitch. The police said that the
supporters rioted and attacked the players and team officials, so the police tried to protect the
players and stop the rioting, but the crowd clashed with security forces. In response, riot police
units fired tear gas, with some towards the frictionless south stand, prompting spectators to flee
to avoid it. This creates a buildup of crowds. A crushing of the crowd occurred at the exit,
causing a number of supporters to suffocate.

The benefits of research for researchers are usually to identify an ongoing problem, for
community service, for the benefit of the community and for one's own experience.

This news utem text portfolio research has theoretical and practical benefits, namely as follows:

a). This research is expected to be the application of multilevel needs theory that is studied to
analyze news.

b). This researcher is expected to provide knowledge related to the variety of sentences.

2. Practical benefits

a). This research is expected to be useful for increasing knowledge about the theory of multilevel
needs which is studied in the news that is presented. So that it can be a reference for further
research.

b). Research can provide information and contributions to readers regarding the variety of

 CHAPTER II DISCUSSION

2.1 Main Event

Seventeen children were among at least 125 people killed in a soccer stampede in Malang, East
Java in the weekend. The officials said, as pressure builds on Indonesia to explain how was one
of the world's worst stadium disasters unfolded. Violence and hooliganism have long been
features of Indonesian football, especially in places such as Jakarta, the capital, but Saturday's
disaster in a small town in Java has thrown a spotlight on the problem. The boys were among 17
children killed, said state news agency Antara, citing figures from the women's empowerment
and child protection ministry. Indonesian daily Koran Tempo ran a black front page on Monday,
centred on the words "Our Football Tragedy", printed in red along with a list of the dead.

2.2 Background

Saturday's deadly crash came as panicking spectators tried to escape the overpacked stadium
after police fired tear gas to disperse fans from the losing home side who ran onto the pitch at the
end of the match. Home side Arema FC had lost the match 3-2 to Persebaya Surabaya, though
authorities had said tickets were not issued to Persebaya fans over security concerns.

2.3 Source

The incident was a "dark day for all involved", said FIFA, the governing body of world soccer,
which has asked Indonesian football authorities for a report on the incident. Its safety regulations
say firearms or "crowd control gas" should not be used in matches. Police and sport officials
have been sent to Malang to investigate an incident that ranks among the world's deadliest
stadium disasters.

 CHAPTER III

CONCLUSION

3.1 Conclusion
Kanjuruhan incident was a violation of human rights that occurred as a result of
governance that was carried out by not implementing, respecting and ensuring safety and
security principles and norms. Regarding safety and security, this violation of PSSI and
FIFA rules occurred because the design of all football matches for which PSSI was
responsible was designed without regard to the principles of safety and security contained
in PSSI and FIFA regulations.

3.2 Suggestion

Thus, the English portfolio can hopefully provide information and insight regarding news
item text. Hopefully with this portfolio, the author can continue to complete the
deficiencies in the contents of the portfolio so that it can be even better in the future. It is
hoped that readers can provide criticism and suggestions for better portfolio
improvement.
