CHAPTER 4: OUR RESOURCES

NEEDS

a. What are basic needs and wants?

- Basic needs is the needs that you need to fulfilled without it we will

quickly die and perish example foods, water, clothes and shelter.

- Important needs is needs that help us to lead a more meaningful life.

b. What are our basic human needs?

- We need:

We need food to feed our family

 We need water for survive and stay healthy

We need shelter to keep us safe

We need clothes to stay warm and be presentable

c. What are other important needs?

1. Care and concern

- From our family and friends are important. They make us feel loved.

Without them, we will suffer miserably. We may not feel needed or

cared for even if all our other basic needs are met.

- Family, relatives and friends gives us a sense of fulfilments.

2. Education

- Education is important to prepare us for the future.

- Education gives us brighter job prospects in the future.

- Having a good education shows that you can apply what you have learnt

to your life.
3. Good Health

 We need good health to perform our daily activities.

4. Transportation

 Transportation is an important need for us. In order to go from

one place to another, we rely on transportation.

 WANTS

A. What are wants?

- Wants are things you would like to have even if you do not get them you

will able to survive.

- Example toys, candies or computer games.

1. Comparing what you have with others

2. Competing with others to have the latest, most expensive and fashionable

things.

This makes you vain, greedy and boastful.

B. How do people meet their needs and wants?

- They work to earn money to obtain goods and services. We live in a

community where we help one another to meet our needs and wants.

- Service is work that someone does for someone else. Example:

A Teacher provides the service of

giving pupils knowledge.

A nurse provides the service of

taking care of the sick people.

A car mechanic provides the

service of repairing vechicles.
