What is Family Basic Needs?

Basic needs are requirements for sustaining life and promoting physical and mental
growth for the children within the family.

1. Food, water, shelter, and clothing


These needs are provided by parents to their children since birth, to keep them
alive.

Food
The most important need of everybody is food. It is the fuel we need to survive.
We need the energy to move around and live life. This energy comes from food. It is also an
integral part of the day to day needs of a family. In the absence of food, survival of human being
is impossible.

Shelter

We need house to live in and protect ourselves from heat of the sun, storm, wind,
etc. It gives us protection. For a family to survive and for its members to live in ease, there
should be a house.

Clothing

Clothing is made of fabric and covers our bodies, keeps them warm or protects
them from sun, insects, thorns, and other hazards. Clothing is necessary for everybody.

Education

Education teaches us easy methods to live in various difficult situations in life.


Family and education have a very close relationship. The family is the basis of a good education.
The family is the root of everything, it is where everything starts, even before formal education.

Social Needs
Social needs are things such as acceptance, appreciation, belonging, and
companionship. Essentially, social needs are met by forging relationship with other
people. Social needs are also considered to be deficiency needs or something that is
essential for growth and development.

According to Maslow’s theory, social needs are important because forging emotional
relationships is essential for preventing anxiety, depression, and loneliness.
