GLAZED BRICKS.
A transparent glaze on the surface of our buff, pink, or gray bricks,
produces beautiful effects and renders the glazed surface impervious
to moisture, affording a brick especially desirable from the standpoint
of cleanliness and hygiene. Sizes, shapes, and prices, same as en-
ameled bricks.
DEAD FINISH.
Impervious White or Gray Face.
For where it is desirable to avoid the glare of re-

exterior walls,
flected light,and to secure a soft tone of white or gray, these bricks
produce handsomer and more pleasing effects than enameled bricks.
The vitrified white or gray face is impervious to water, and the
only effect produced upon it by rain is to wash it clean.
We make these bricks in Standard and in Roman sizes.

ARCHES.
When ordering arches, please consult the following pages and give
all necessary information as to details; when anything more than a
simple semi-circle, segment, flat or Gothic arch is wanted, we should

be furnished with full-size detail of half the arch, especially if cut
stone or terra cotta is used in connection with the brick work.

Furnish details as far as possible in advance of time the arches
will be required. With all necessary bricks in stock, we can usually
grind arches within two weeks from receipt of order. If molded

shapes are not in stock, and must be made before they are ground
for the arches, we should be allowed eight weeks after receipt of the
order.

External returns for string-courses, and internal angles for panels,
are carried in stock in those shapes most used. When returns or
panel mitres of shapes wanted are not in stock we mitre two bricks
as shown below.

MOLDED SHAPES.
Arc Standard Sizes Unless Otherwise Specified in Catalog,
and are made to match shade of straight bricks as nearly as possible,
but a slight variation in color is often unavoidable.
State exact number required, as we can not estimate quantities
from drawings or blue prints.
When ordering, state quantity of each — headers, stretchers, and
returns, — and specify what kind of return — whether external or internal

angle in string-course, or external or internal panel mitre (see page jj).
We have special molds for over three hundred shapes, but do
not carry in stock all shapes in all colors. To insure satisfactory
delivery in any color, they should be ordered six weeks in advance of
requirements.
IMPORTANT.
NOTE — We . make molded shapes to increase the sale of our
straight bricks, and are, therefore, compelled to decline to furnish
molded shapes except to jobs using our straight bricks.
The following prices are net, F. O. B. cars, our works.

STERLING MORTAR COLORS.
We carry a large stock, which enables us to make prompt ship-

ments.
Prices on application.
For lots less than full barrels, an extra charge will be made for
packing.
Directions for Mixing Mortar Colors.
First mix the color with the dry sand, then add the cold-slaked
lime, and again mix thoroughly. It is very important that the color
be uniformly mixed. If it is not added at first, but left until the
mortar is made, the labor of mixing is doubled. The more thorough
the mixture, the less color is required, and the cheaper it is for the
consumer.
Directions for Using Mortar Colors.
Red, Brown and Buff.
For laying 1,000 bricks with spread joints, use about 70 pounds
of color to two and one-half bushels of lime and one-half yard of
sand. For buttered joints use 65 pounds of color.
Black.
For laying 1,000 brick with spread joints, use 50 pounds of black
color to two and one-half bushels of lime and one-half yard of sand.
For buttered joints use 40 pounds of color.
For Mottled Work.
Mix each color in a separate portion of the mortar or plaster,

then produce the mottled effect by combining the different colored
mortars.
