I. INTRODUCTION

1.1. Background and Rationale

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education is the mode of

education that use information and communications technology to support, enhance, and

optimize the delivery of information.  ICT can impact student learning when teachers are

digitally literate and understand how to integrate it into curriculum.

Computer system are increasingly being used to provide learning experiences when and

where they are needed. This provides students with greater independence not only in terms of

when and where they learn but also what they learn. (Cradler and Bridgforth, 2022). ICT can be

used extensively to help the learner make the sense of task assigned and optimizing learning

outcomes worksheets, informative and communicative tools of ICT need to be available to the

learners on an individual basis or in a small group. ICT integration provides meaningful and

productive learning experiences through student center classroom.

Integrating ICT in education is an instructional choice by the teacher and it involves

collaboration and deliberate planning in addition to always having the teacher to participate. The

integration of ICT on education is when the classroom teacher’s use ICT to introduce, reinforce,

exted, enrich assess, and remediate student’s mastery of curricular targets. Effective ICT

integration in education cannot be achieved without the teacher certainly won't occur if the

teacher just send their student to the computer Laboratory to learn ICT skills while doing

something else.

It is said that ICT integration and education affects positively the student’s academic

performance according to the study of Hanushek khuan and Rumbergerb Allysa(2021).Student

become more engaged in their work when ICT integrated into lessons. The application of
technology provides different opportunities to make learning more fun and enjoyable in terms of

teaching the same things in different ways. Moreover, Ahamad et.al.(2019) stated that ICT can

helps students by affording them knowledge constructs and learner-centered activities that

enable them to arrive at all answer. Computer based application support this approaches to

learning, students can simulate various situations and by such means solve creative and

fundamental problems as learners come to understand how online materials help in deep inquiry

and problem solving (Kozma, 2005).

However, Fathima (2013) said student performance and ICT integration have been

topical for some time now as far as research and discuss are concerned. There is a rapid change

in the student's performance when ICT is used in the in the teaching environment. While ICT has

been used in various ways to support teaching and learning, some of the literature point to the

fact that little evidence exist supporting the claim that ICT has transformed education (Twining

and Henry, 2014). This assertion is consist by some researchers and academics. In facts, there is

sufficient evidence to back the assertion that, there is positive relationship between ICT

integration in education and student’s academic performance.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the students' perceptions on ICT integration. ICT

integrations is needed because it is useful when it comes to online classes, Google Classroom,

etc...it support the learning process in the classroom. Integration of information Communication

and Technology to (ICT) will assist teachers to the global requirements to replace traditional

teaching methods with technology based teaching tools and facilities. Moreover, this research

also tries to Investigated the impact of ICT integration to student’s academic achievement to

establish support to existing literature about the effectiveness of ICT integration in school.

1.2. Statement of the Problem

This research study intends to highlight the impact of ICT integration to the students in
Lugait Senior High School to their academic achievements. Furthermore, this research also tries
to find out the student perception towards ICT integration in classes.

Specifically, this paper seeks to answer the following questions:

1. How is ICT integrated in classes of Lugait Senior High School?

2. What are the student's perception of ICT integration in classes?

3. What is the impact of ICT integration towards student's academic achievement?

1.3. Scope and Delimitation of the Study

The aim of this study is to find out the Impact of ICT integration in students' Academic
Achievement. This research was carried out during the academic year 2022-2023.This study will
be conducted in Lugait Senior High School. The respondents are the students'. Each of
respondents is given questionnaire to answer.

1.4. Significance of the Study

The research will be beneficial to the following:

Students – students become more engaged in their work when ICT integrated into

lessons. ICT integration provides meaningful and productive learning experiences through

student - centered classroom.

Parents – this study can help them to be open-minded about ICT integration in school.

Moreover, they should understand that their children are benefited in achieving their academic

goals when ICT tools are used by teachers. Thus, they should support this method of teaching

and learning.

Future Researcher – It can help them to gather some information to this study in the

future. It can also encourage and motivates students’ to learn more about the importance of ICT

in education. This study can help them during their research.

1.5. Definition of Terms

To enable better understanding of the study the following terminologies are Operationally or

Conceptually defined:

Achievement. A thing done successfully, typically by efforts, courage or skills. It refers to in

having good grade, performance tasks, written works and quarterly assessments.
Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). It is a broader term for Information

Technology (IT), which refers to all communication technologies, including the internet

wireless network and other media applications and services.

Integration. It refers to the use of teaching the student using ICT Tools through; Power point,

Excel, Making a video, Google classroom, Microsoft teams, and etc…

II.REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This chapter deals with the related literature based on foreign or local

A paper entitled “ICT integration in the educational systems of the Philippines” aims to

forward the need to design a curriculum standard for ICT integration in the k-12 educational

systems of the Philippines. In Addition, a study of Bonifacio (2013) argued the vitality of ICT in

education but that educational goals must drive the use of ICT in schools. Hence, the paper

emphasized how important for schools to develop curriculum standards that would clear

educational expectations from students improve instructional strategies for teachers, and provide

a framework for schools for technological integration.

Furthermore, one highlighted reason is on the vitality of ensuring that the Filipino

students are able to acquire ICT concepts skill that will help them achieve greater benefits of

learning. In addition, the paper also emphasized how ICT can be integrated in the curriculum of

the new k-12 system. He founded the core of its paper on the theory of Pattinson in Curriculum.

A study entitled "The effects of ICT use in Teaching and Learning on Students'

Achievement in Science Subject“ in Primary School in Science Subject. A total of 100

respondents were selected amongst year 4 students at a primary school in Butterworth, Penang,

Malaysia. Respondent were randomly selected amongst the Year 4 students. Fifty students (25

male and 25 female) were selected for the Control Group and another 50 (25 male and 25
female) students for the Treatment Group. Stratified Random Sampling was used to ensure the

generalization and the accuracy of the data. The selection of sample also was based on the final

examination grade of Science subject. This study has a positive result and using ICT in science

lesson can help students to understand science concepts through a relationship with a real life

situation. The use of ICT in science lesson can also improve students’ Achievements compared

to using traditional approaches. Moreover, it can make teaching and learning processes become

more interesting, encouraging and effective. Using ICT in study encourages students to process

information better and thus enhances the understanding and improves students memory (Hull

1995; Gayski,1993).

A research study entitled "Impact of ICT on Student’s Performance: A case study of

ASA University Bangladesh. MS ISLAM, MH Fougi. ASA University Review” paper to students

are not supposed to be confirm only within the learning in a classroom context - similarly the

relationship between the use of ICT and students performance is higher education is not duo and

there are mixed results in literature. Earlier economics research has failed to provide a clear

consensus concerning the effect of student’s achievement MD Shamimul Islam (2010).The study

found that the Impact of ICT on Academic Performance of the study about the potential role of

ICT in their academic life. The result of this study can be very useful for students to ensure better

use of ICT and it would be more useful in the long space run develop a healthy and fruitful

relationship between ICT and Academic Performance.

A study investigates the impact of ICT Integration on student's academic achievements.

The use of technology during whole-class instruction can booster student engagement for

auditory and visual learners. Integrating simple technologies power points, games, internet

homework assignments, or online grading system can difference makers in students' growth in

classroom. The research design of the study is quasi experimental. Three different research tools

were used to collect data: an academic achievement test and attitude measurement scale on

social studies education and an attitude measurement scale or ICT.

A study entitled "The impact of ICT on pupil's achievement and attitudes in social

Studies” (Gokhan Demirhan,2015). The result has an effect that Pupil's attitude towards the

subject and ICT do not have in effect on their post-test achievement scores. However, their prior

knowledge on the subject and the treatment i.e teaching social studies with ICT have a positive

effect on their achievement. Teaching social studies, with ICT do not have any statistically

significant effect on pupil's attitude towards social studies lesson.

Integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will assist student to the

global requirement to replace traditional teaching methods with technology-based teaching

learning tools and facilities. In Malaysia, ICT is considered as one of the main elements in

transforming the country the future development. The Ministry of Education through the latest

Education Blueprint (2013), insights the importance of technology-based teaching and learning

into schools national curriculum. A study aims to analyze student perception of the impact of ICT

integration to support the teaching and learning process in the classroom. A survey questionnaire

was distribute randomly to a total of 150 students. The data for this quantitative research were

analyzed for both descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS (Version 21) software. The

result indicate that the ICT integration has great impact for both teacher and student. Findings

indicate that student well-equipped preparation with ICT tools and facilities is one of the main

factor in the success of technology-based learning.
