4.0. ANALYSIS
After performing an online survey in Public Sector University, total of the 16 samples
become part of our survey. This survey judges the awareness level of university students.
There were some problems faced during this research and one of them was that some of the
students did not answer the open-ended questions sincerely. The survey questioner is divided
into different sections like one section to check their awareness level about cybercrimes and
one section to check how much secure they are from cybercrime. It contains a combination of
close-ended and open-ended questions. The result for each of the question is recorded
separately and is shown by pie charts. After analyzing the response of each question, the
result of the survey is described below:

How safe do you feel about your infor-

mation, when you are online?

very safe
not safe
safe
don't know

Out of 16 students, 12 (75%) chose the option “not safe”, 2 (12.5%) chose “safe”, 2 (12.5%)
chose “don’t know”, while the option “very safe” was not marked by a single person.

Most students showed negative response which showed that they don’t feel very secure when
they are online or when they put their personal information online.
Do you feel it is essential to be safe online?

strongly agree
agree
strongly disagree
disagree
neutral

Out of 16 students, 8 (50%) strongly agreed, 6 (37.5%) agreed and 2 (12.5%) were neutral.
The rest of the options were not chosen.

Most of the students considered it important to be safe online. That is completely correct
because without safety, people might steal information to cause harm or for their own benefit.

Is there any anti-virus installed in your PC?

yes
no
maybe

Out of 16 students, 11 (68.75%) marked “yes”, 4 (25%) marked “no” and 1 (6.25%) marked
“maybe”.

As most of the subjects mentioned that they do not feel secure online so it makes sense many
of them have anti-virus software installed in their PC.
Do you think passwords are strong enough
to make you secure?

yes
no
maybe

Out of 16 students, 1 (6.25%) marked “yes”, 10 (62.5%) marked “no” and 5 (31.25%)
marked “maybe”.

Most subject feel secure with just a password which might not be true as now a days
password can be easily cracked and hacked into. This percentage shows the unawareness of
the subjects.

Do you think cybercrimes negetively affect

internet users?

yes
no
maybe

Out of 16 students, 10 (62.5%) marked “yes”, 2 (12.5%) marked “no” and 4 (31.25%)
marked “maybe”.
Have you ever experienced any of these
situations?

malware
auto generated mails in your
inbox
confidential reports being
hacked
never experienced such situ-
ation

Out of 16 students, 4 (25%) experienced malware, 2 (12.5%) had auto generated mails,
1(56.25%) had confidential reports hacked while 9 never experienced such situation.

Most subjects were not a victim of cybercrime which shows that cybercrimes are not much
high.

of a cybercrime?

never
1 time
2-5 times
more than 5 times

Out of 16 students, 14 (87.5%) chose the option “never”, 2 (12.5%) chose “1 time”, while the
rest of the options were not marked by a single person.

Most subjects were never a victim of cybercrime while some of them had became victim of it
only once which shows that cybercrime might not be wide-spread in Pakistan as much as the
foreign country.
Have you ever lost money due to cy-
bercrime?

never
I got pvercharged
money got deducted from
bank account
can't say

Out of 16 students, 13 (81.25%) never lost money, 3 (18.75%) got overcharged while the rest
of the options were not chosen.

Most subjects did not lose money while few of them got over charged from which we can
conclude that cybercrimes, on a major level, do not happen that often in Pakistan.

Have you stopped shopping online due

to this issue?

to some extent
stopped it completely
use highly trusted websites
i do online shopping very
frequently
i do not shop online

Out of 16 students, 4 (25%) chose the option “to some extent”, 7 (43.75%) chose “highly
trusted websites”, 3 (18.75%) chose “shopping very frequently”, 2 (12.5%) chose “don’t shop
online”, while none of them stopped online shopping completely.

Most subjects do online shopping even after being aware of the situation because it is a
necessity so government should take steps to eradicate cybercrimes.

able to control cyber criminals?

yes
no
maybe

Out of 16 students, 3 (18.75%) marked “yes”, 7 (43.75%) marked “no” and 6 (37.5%)
marked “maybe”.

Many subjects agree that the present laws in effect can control cybercrimes but in reality our
laws for cybercrimes are not taken as seriously as they should be.

Is there any need to fight against these

criminal acts?

yes
no
maybe

Out of 16 students, 15 (93.75%) marked “yes”, 1 (6.25%) marked “maybe” but no one
marked the option “no”.

Almost all subjects agree there is a need fight against these criminal acts and punish them in
accordance with law because cybercrime is just as bad as any other crime present.

victimized by cyber criminals?
