Aims:
• To develop students’ speaking skills
• To encourage students to think about the importance of online safety
• To encourage children to be safe online
LESSON STAGES
- The teacher greets the students and introduces herself. She asks the students to write their
names on a sheet of paper and place it in a visible place on their desk.
- The teacher checks the homework.
Activity 2: Warmer - Predictive activity to introduce the topic of the lesson (5 min)
- The teacher writes the following words on the board for students to copy: online, share,
information, personal, privacy, password
- The teacher explains that these words are all related to today’s lesson theme.
- The students discuss their ideas in pairs and make suggestions about the theme of the lesson.
- The teacher tells the students that she is going to show them a poster about online safety, but
that before they see the poster they are going to do a preparation activity.
- In pairs, students do the preparation activity from the worksheet focusing on vocabulary from
the poster.
- The teacher checks the answers and explains any unknown words
- In groups of 4, students look at the poster (on their worksheet) and discuss the 8 tips listed.
They also have to classify them from the most useful to the least useful. They can include more
than one tip in any position.
- Students also do the exercise from the bottom of the page
- The teacher asks some groups to share their opinions with the rest of the class
- The teacher groups the students in pairs and gives each pair a set of role-cards.
- Each pair has to write a short dialogue concerning online safety based on their role-card
- The teacher monitors students while they do the activity, offering encouragement and support
where necessary.
- The students act out their dialogues
- The other students have to vote for the most original, for the most eloquent and for the
funniest dialogue
- The winning teams get a poster as a prize
- As homework, the students will have to make their own poster containing online safety tips
