QUESTION 1 INTRODUCTION

a) Description of SDG.

The United Nations endorsed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the
Global Goals, in 2015 as a common source of thinking to combat poverty, safeguard the
environment, and ensure that by 2030, all people recognise peace and prosperity. The 17 SDGs
are interrelated; they understand that sports in one location influence outcomes in others, and
that progress must change social, economical, and environmental sustainability. Nations have
agreed to focus on development for the people who are the most disadvantaged. The SDGs
intend to eradicate poverty, longing, assistance, and victimization of women and young ladies.
To understand the SDGs in any context, society's creativity, knowledge, innovation, and financial
resources are all necessary. The SDGs are an improved version of the Millennium Development
Goals. The SDGs are an improved version of the Millennium Development Goals, which guided
worldwide efforts to reduce extreme poverty from 2000 to 2015. For the first time in history, the
international community was able to create a global and comprehensive sustainable
development agenda that covered both social and environmental goals (based on the
Millennium Development Goals) in continuation with the Rio Declaration of 1992 and
subsequent COP summits. The first and most apparent of the SDGs is the declared objective to
eradicate all forms of poverty in all regions of the world. The SDG must be achieved in every
context and this requires the creativity, knowledge, technology and financial resources of the
entire society.

The 17 Goals:

Goal 1: No poverty

"End global poverty in all its forms."

Goal 2: Zero hunger (No hunger)

"End hunger, achieve food security and better nutrition, and the promotion of sustainable
agriculture.”

Goal 3: Good health and well-being

"Promote wellbeing for all ages and ensure healthy lives for all."

3
Goal 4: Quality education

"Ensure inclusive, equitable, high-quality education and support opportunities for lifelong
learning for all."

Goal 5: Gender equality

“Realize gender equality and give all women and girls more power.

Goal 6: Clean water and sanitation

"Ensure everyone has access to sustainable water and sanitation management."

Goal 7: Affordable and clean energy

"Ensure that everyone has access to modern, sustainable, energy supplies."

Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth

Promote full and productive employment, sustainable and inclusive economic growth, and fair
employment for all.

Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

"Support inclusive and sustainable industrialization, promote innovation, and create resilient
infrastructure."

Goal 10: Reduced inequality

"Reduce income disparities within and between nations."

Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities

“Make human settlements and cities inclusive, secure, durable, and sustainable.

Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production

"Make sure to follow sustainable production and consumption patterns."

Goal 13: Climate action

4
"Take immediate action to limit emissions and advance the use of renewable energy sources to
combat climate change and its effects."

Goal 14: Life below water

"To promote sustainable development, "conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and
marine resources." The need to protect the resources is not being met by the current efforts to
protect oceans, marine environments, and small-scale fishers”.

Goal 15: Life on land

"Protect, restore, and encourage sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, manage forests
sustainably, stop desertification, halt land degradation, and stop biodiversity loss”.

Goal 16: Peace, justice and strong institutions

"Promote inclusive and peaceful societies for sustainable development, ensure that everyone
has access to justice, and create inclusive and effective institutions at all levels."

Goal 17: Partnership for the goals

"Intensify implementation strategies and reenergize the international partnership for sustainable
development."

b) Introduction to the projects

We are mainly focusing on achieving sustainable development goals (SDG) in Malaysian

organizations, communities or families. Our group project is a seminar for gender-equality. The
gender-equality seminar equips the participant(s) with the necessary knowledge, abilities, and
moral principles to effectively implement the gender-mainstreaming approach in their industry,
organization, institution, or nation.

A technique, strategy, and means to impact individual and societal transformation towards
gender equality through consciousness raising, empowering learning, knowledge building, and
skill development, according to UN Women, is gender-equality training. Gender mainstreaming
cannot be implemented with just one tool, nor is gender equality training a goal in and of itself. It
is a component of a larger collection of instruments, tools, and tactics. Training on gender
equality ought to be a part of an ongoing, protracted process.

5
However, a number of international normative instruments on gender equality recognise that
gender-equality training is a crucial part of the gender-mainstreaming strategy.

This seminar aims and objectives are to:

Awareness of gender equality to the younger generation.

Integrate gender issues into the growth of the nation.
Advocate for the respect and rights of disadvantaged communities in society.
To foster and promote a general comprehension of issues relating to gender, such as
violence against women and the gender pay gap.
To alter attitudes, behaviors, and convictions that support gender inequality
Spread knowledge of the referral channels for sexual and gender-based abuse.
To provide fundamental information, supporting data, and arguments on a range of
issues related to gender equality in order to raise consciousness and knowledge of
gender (in)equality.
To promote dialogue and information sharing to advance knowledge of gender
(in)equality and mutual understanding
To mobilize groups of people and the larger society to affect the necessary shifts in
attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs regarding gender equality.
Ensuring that the design, implementation, monitoring, and assessment of policies,
initiatives, and projects in all social, political, civil, and economic arenas take into
account the interests and experiences of both women and men in order to benefit both
genders equally.

6
QUESTION 2 COLLABORATIVE

a) FORMATION OF GROUP AND CRITERIA OF SELECTING GROUP MEMBERS

Students placed in good groups are more interested in group work and take greater
responsibility for their group members. This minimizes the number of issues they have to deal
with, it often leads to better jobs. The group should ideally consist of 4 to 6 members and
students should be able to enter and exit the group early in the process.

FORMATION AND CRITERIA OF SETTING JOB DESCRIPTION

We as a group of 6 members decided to do the project to spread awareness of gender equality

among students as well as collaborate with UNITAR INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY. So, we
decided to collaborate with UNITAR volunteers to arrange the preparations for this project
seminar for Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sri Permata.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

To optimize the objective of our project to spread the awareness of gender equality and
integrate gender issues into the growth of the nation, we managed to complete this project
successfully. Each of our group members did their job perfectly with dedication. First and
foremost, Sehron had submitted the seminar event proposal to collaborate with UNITAR. After
getting a positive response from UNITAR, we took our next step by getting approval from SMK
SRI PERMATA. At first, the school management rejected our proposal because of rising covid
cases. After Vikneshbawan tried to explain and brief us about this seminar's importance, they
finally approved it. Also, we promise the school management that we will conduct this seminar
full of SOPs. In addition, we decided to set up a booth on the seminar day, so all preparations
and props have been prepared by Paula. Also, Aiswaria manages to prepare the games and
gifts for the winners which are goodie bags provided by UNITAR. Last but not the least,
Rangeda and Nayli manage to prepare lunch for the participants and volunteers. Also, they
arrange transportation for the volunteers.

b) Organizing the event/Report/record of the activity(s)

We have been assigned with carrying out a project that will allow us to learn about their
surroundings while also working to help the country’s ecology achieve sustainable development
goals. This will create a framework for us to be introduced to fundamental components of
sustainable development through corporate social policy lectures and turn them into new
themes that can be applied in both economic and social settings. This idea is related to the
Sustainable developments Goal (SDG). “Gender inequality“

At this point, we are organizing a seminar event for school students which is named “Gender
Equality Awareness Programme.” Most of us must know gender awareness raising aims at
increasing general sensitivity, understanding and knowledge about gender (in)equality.
Awareness raising is a process which helps to facilitate the exchange of ideas, improve mutual
understanding, and develop competencies and skills necessary for societal change.

8
Our objective of this programme is to promote and encourage a general understanding of
gender-related challenges, for instance, violence against women and the gender pay gap. It
also aims to show how values and norms influence our reality, reinforce stereotypes, and
support the structures that produce inequalities.

Moreover, our seminar programme was held on 28 January 2023. It was a great day for school
students and to get to know about gender awareness. The programme started from 9.00 am to
12.30 pm. We are gratefully welcoming our students to our programmes. At the same time, the
programme venue is at SMK SRI PERMATA. Mostly, we are inviting form 1 until form 5 students
to attend this programme. Here are itinerary details of the programme.

c) Descriptions of the service (s)/activity(s)

To be aware among students about gender equality and the importance of it.First and foremost,
we have a talk and sharing session with Miss. Pavithra, a UNITAR achiever. She will talk about
her opinion about gender equality and why gender is inequality among the communities. She
will also explain in detail the importance of having awareness about gender equality. This will be
our main goal because, nowadays when students are unable to know about gender equality ,
they prefer to work together with one gender rather than pair with another gender in the group .
They believe that working together among people of the same gender will help them. Other than
that, we encourage collaboration amongst people of all genders. It's possible that encouraging
everyone in the class to collaborate with one another is the most effective strategy to improve
gender equality in the classroom. Teamwork is an important life skill anyway, but giving kids of
different genders the opportunity to collaborate without the constraints of gender stereotypes will
educate them that gender roles are mostly irrelevant in the actual world.Avoid stereotypes
(including subtle ones). It is essential to steer clear of outdated and sometimes deeply
established preconceptions, such as the notion that "blue is for males" and "pink is for girls," or
that "tough boys" and "caring" girls are more common. These are very little factors, but they
have the potential to have a significant influence on how a kid perceives his or her own value
and sense of self-worth. One in seven young women expresses dissatisfaction with their
physical appearance, according to the Children's Society. To contribute to the reduction of this
statistic, try to refrain from making comments on the looks of females and instead laud their
accomplishments and the ideas they have.Include works of literature that are accessible to all
audiences and devoid of sexist assumptions about gender. The majority of the literature that we
are all required to read in school is rife with obsolete gender norms and outdated gender
stereotypes. Children are more likely to be motivated by tales that they can connect to and that
include characters that are similar to themselves. Therefore, reading books that feature female
scientists and novels featuring male nurses helps create equitable work options and ambitions
for children as they grow older. Also, we arranged some fun games for the students and as a gift
for winners we had to provide them with UNITAR goodie bags with gifts and brochures. We
offered students the opportunity to stop by our booth after the lunch break. In the meanwhile,
students can learn more about gender equality. Last but not least, the prize giving ceremony
and farewell speech by Volunteer, Ms.Jessica. So, basically, we are organizing this seminar to
change this mindset of students, because in this 21st-century gender equality is very important
compared to the past decades.

10
d)Explanation of the group’s involvements and contributions.

To finish our assignment successfully, we need to be more helpful and improve our contribution
to the group, as expressed in the expression "more hands make work lighter." All of the
members' contributions make the project's progress even smoother and more well-planned
before it is implemented in reality. We all did an excellent job of contributing to our engagement
by expressing our thoughts and making pertinent judgments. Our team as well as UNITAR
members, contribute their level best in completing this seminar. First and foremost, Sehron
submitted the event proposal to collaborate with UNITAR. UNITAR was kind enough and agreed
to collaborate with us. They agreed to send their great achiever of the season, Miss. Pavithra to
give a speech on the event day. After getting a positive response from UNITAR, we took our
next step to getting approval from SMK Sri Permata. At first, the school management rejected
our proposal because of rising covid cases. After Vikneshbawan tried to explain and brief us
about the importance of the seminar , they finally approved it. Moreover, UNITAR management
prepares the booth materials. All the arrangements for the booth and props on the event day
were done by Paula. Also, Aiswaria manages to prepare the games and gifts for the winners
which are goodie bags provided by UNITAR. Goodie bags include UNITAR brochures, masks,
diaries, and an application form for the winners. Last but not the least, Rangeda and Nayli
manage to prepare lunch for the participants and volunteers. Also, they arrange transportation
for the volunteers. In a nutshell, we really appreciate the UNITAR management's support and
best efforts in completing this project. From this, we may conclude that the students at SMK Sri
Permata have engaged well with our mission.

11
QUESTION 3 REFLECTIVE LEARNING

a) Identify and explain TWO (2) skills or knowledge

● Empowerment

Empowerment means people having power and control over their own lives. Citizenship on an
equal footing is what empowerment entails. Each person should be given the chance to develop
their inner strength, sense of self, and skill set. To enhance their psychological, financial, or
social status, it is critical to understand and utilize their potential. Many women have been
taught to put other people's needs ahead of their own. In order to care for, attend to, and fulfill
family commitments, they eventually give up their personal and professional goals, reinforcing
the societal position that has been assigned to them.Development is stronger and more
sustainable when there is gender equality. In addition to being a pressing moral and social
concern, it also presents a significant economic difficulty. The international economy will suffer if
women, who make up half of the working-age population worldwide, do not realize their full
economic potential. This is why empowerment is so important, because it is only by recognising
one's own wants and aspirations, as well as discovering one's own resources, that personal
progress and, consequently, personal fulfillment are achievable.

● Assertiveness

Every action we take in life involves communication. We can develop connections through it
where everyone can express their wants and feelings without being harassed, regardless of
gender.People that are assertive value their own energies and selves. They are more confident
in both themselves and other people because they have learned how to better manage their
emotions and deal with stress. They also believe that a peaceful resolution to the conflict is
possible. Because of this, it is important to have mature conversations both with oneself and
other people. To become more assertive, we must learn to speak up for what we want in a kind,
honest, and tolerant manner without being aggressive. Being assertive involves knowing how to
ask for what you want, knowing how to say "no," being adaptable and negotiating while
respecting the other person's rights. Along with voicing and accepting constructive criticisms, it
also involves receiving and giving compliments.

12
b) How these skills help a person to be morally responsible employee/employer

Employee empowerment.

Employee empowerment may offer opportunities and resources to help employees develop the
information, skills, power, and motivation that will improve their competence, confidence, and
self-efficacy to succeed and advance professionally. In conclusion, the idea of empowerment
can be evaluated based on power and skill. It focuses on management techniques or initiatives
intended to increase employee agency and accountability by providing them with access to
information and resources. Employee empowerment in this seminar gives employees access to
opportunities and resources to help them develop their motivation, authority, and knowledge
(including technical and specialized knowledge as well as interpersonal and management
skills). The potential of employees to improve their competence, confidence, and self-efficacy to
succeed and grow economically and socially is supposed to be enhanced by these activities.

Assertiveness

The first one is assertiveness can boost confidence. Workers who successfully defend
themselves at work may feel more assured in their communication abilities, which may boost
their self-esteem. Next is effective collaboration. Collaboration is more effective when team
members handle conflicts assertively so they may share advice and learn from one another.
Lastly, respect for authority. Firm managers can improve their leadership abilities with their
employees. They give clear and confident instructions, and their staff is aware that the manager
pays attention to what they have to say.

c).Challenges we as a group had while performing the activity(s)

Nothing worthwhile is ever achieved without a fight. Challenge is a force that fortifies us and
aids in our collective success. The SOP that we must adhere to during this Covid season is the
first issue I want to bring up here. I can only talk about two of the difficulties we encountered
during the activities. These SOP may be something you're wondering about, but I can promise
you that they do. Planning an event was also challenging because our initial request was denied
due to the rise in Covid cases and team members came out with variety plans and problems
due to covid SOP. We then made an updated attempt, which the school's principal carefully
considered. In my capacity as an organizer, we were also continually vigilant and never
compromised regarding the SOP.The day before the event, the organizers and I did a self-Covid

13
exam and encouraged the attendees and participants to do the same, despite the
inconvenience. After all, we wanted the occasion to be wholesome and secure. We divided the
attendees into groups without gender based so they could take part in the activities as planned
since we could only have so many people attend. It was challenging to comply with the
requirement that we always wear masks. Thankfully, we were allowed to speak into the
microphone uncovered. In addition to the Covid, we also faced a hurdle because this was our
first time organizing an outdoor project and the project itself was unfamiliar territory for all of us.
As a team, we've gone through a lot, including disputes, running out of time for preparation,
unexpected rejection, and wet weather. We went through an emotional roller coaster both before
and after the occurrence. We traveled a lot and had team meetings on and off, which was
exhausting, and the dreary weather was impossible to escape. This was a huge challenge for all
of us because it was our first time planning and implementing an event

d) Explain how the group overcame the above challenges

Challenges in our life are designed to make us stronger, which we as a team did during this
project. We faced several problems and suffered, but in the end, we did our best. It was not an
easy task to do an event during this Covid season, and we did it by adhering to the new norms
by preparing the event with limited attendees, but our goal was to reach all participants the
important of gender equality, so we prepared enough sanitizers and masks and kept safe
distances during the activities. We examined all the My Sejahtera participants to ensure they
were completely vaccinated, and we also checked their own Covid test results, which were
negative. Other than that we as a teamwork Help each other to make this initiative a success.
We sought counsel from UNITAR University seniors and obtained references from internet sites.
We learned how to organize events from our university's event planning staff, who provided us
with really useful information. We all communicated effectively with one another, and I believe
that is how we overcame the aforementioned problems. When working in a team, one must be
patient and communicate in order to obtain the greatest results, and we as a team attained our
aim mostly via effective communication.
