1. Given the chance to put- up your own drugstore, illustrate its physical set-up or floor plan.

COMMUNITY PHARMACY FLOOR PLAN

2. List down equipment, facilities that can be found in the community pharmacy that are
commonly found in all pharmacies. In what activities or function are they being used? How
vital are they in the pharmacy operation?
My proposed layout of community pharmacy includes:

EQUIPMENTS:
EQUIPMENTS FUNCTION IMPORTANCE
Fridges and Freezers Used to ensure specific It is vitally important that patients get
medicines are safely stored within the medications they need that are in
a narrow temperature range in good condition and are not degraded
line with manufacturers’ in any way. Medications can
instructions decompose when they are stored at
improper temperatures and can be
either ineffective or downright
dangerous if they aren’t.
Ex. Insulin needs to be kept cool
otherwise it won’t work for diabetes
patients.
Controlled drug To secure the controlled drugs Ensuring the safe and effective
cabinet management of controlled drugs as it
is also an important role for the
pharmacists
Containers used for dispensing- Able to protect medicines from
Containers clean and free from environmental factors
contamination
Sphygmomanometer Measures blood pressure To monitor patient’s BP
Air conditioner Provides cold inside the drug Removing heat and humidity that may
store affect the medicines
Digital thermo- For measurements of humidity. To monitor and maintain the FDA
hygrometer Humidity is a representation required temperature inside the
of the concentration of water pharmacy which is 15-25 degree
vapor in the air where the celcius.
value is shown as a percent.
Thermo hygrometers have
sensors which measure humidity
of the air and temperature
of the air.
Spatulas Used for compounding drugs Avoid contaminationn
Personal Protection Used during compounding tasks To keep us safe from exposure to
Equipment because of risk of exposure to chemicals and even sick patients is of
dangerous drugs. the utmost importance.
Computer Used for the records of stocks as To lessen the work load and also it
well as to manage inventory and doesn’t consume too much of time if
distribution. the pharmacy have a computerized
system.

FACILITIES:
FACILITIES IMPORTANCE
Dispensing Area  In where we can communicate and dispense the
right medicine to the patient with clear instructions
Pharmacist’s room  It is important for a pharmacist to have their own
privacy or a quiet environment when analyzing
prescriptions or talking to the doctor if there is an
error made in the prescriptions because if it is done
in the dispensing area it will be very alarming to the
patient.

Working area  Where preparation and compounding can be done.

It has a specific area for sterile and non sterile
preparations to prevent infections and
contaminations.

Incoming storage and outgoing  It is important to have this in a pharmacy for the
storage process identification and monitoring to protect its
conditions during storage.

Wash area  For hand washing before doing compounding or any

drug preparations especially during this time of
pandemic.

Rest room  Which is necessity for the staff and pharmacist of

the pharmacy
P.P.E and lab coat storage area  Where all of the staff of the pharmacy can get their
P.P.E’s after washing as their way of protection.
Emergency exits  Provides fast exit and as safe way to get out from
the facility in case of any emergency such as fire

NOTE:
 There should have a separate washing area for hands and for instruments used.
 Sterile and non-sterile should be separated.
 Rest room and washing area for hands should always be located away from working area
where compounding and preparations are done to avoid contaminations.
 Dispensing area should meet the requirements for a good dispensing environment.
 In my proposed layout there is an exit door that can be used for the staff and the pharmacist to
enter in the pharmacy where the washing area and the rest room are located so that they are
sanitized before getting their P.P.E’s especially during this time of pandemic.
